Jim Alfredson Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 I saw this book on a visit this morning to the recording studio that we made our record at (Glenn Brown Productions in E. Lansing). That last sentence had a plethora of prepositions. Anyway, interesting book. I didn't get to read much, just look at the pictures. It is a book about the great recording studios of yester-year. It has chapters on Capitol, Atlantic, Chess, Sun, Stax, Motown, and even Rudy Van Gelder's joint! Plus many more. Some very cool pictures including one of Jimmy Smith playing the organ that I've never seen that was way groovy! And a neat one of Marvin Gaye fooling around with a Hammond (looked like a C3) from Motown. Temples of Sound Looks like an good read! I was drooling over some of the equipment in the photos... old mixing boards, Neumann U-47s galore, and old compressors and such... OooOOooo! Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted March 16, 2004 Author Report Posted March 16, 2004 And this nice photo of Peggy singing into... tada... a Neumann U-47! Peggy Lee Quote
7/4 Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 Gear head! I can relate, but I'm trying to avoid G.A.S. Quote
sheldonm Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 I picked up this book a few month ago, very nice with lots of great photographs and details on many landmark recordings. I think I saw several used copies on abebooks.com but the book has not been out that long as is still in print. Mark Quote
