wesbed Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 Wasn't there a Mosaic set, The Complete Bob Seger with Thelonious Monk? No, wait, wait, I'm wrong... these two never played together. Quote
Chrome Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 Isn't Bob Seger Norah Jones' father? That said, I've often wondered what non-Michigan people think about him ... R&R Hall of Famer? I admit to loving stuff like "Night Moves," "Main Street," "Ramblin' Man," "2+2" ... Quote

RainyDay Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 This morning on the local rock shock jock show, they played "Bowel Move," and I believe he was in the studio when they did it. Funny as heck song and he was surprisingly good humored about it. I think they were broadcasting from back east. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 For reasons I can't quite pinpoint, Bob Seger is and has always been one of my all-time least favorite classic-rock acts. When he comes up on the radio dial, 99% of the time I lunge for the knob or button that changes the station. Quote

Brandon Burke Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 I'll go on record as saying that the first Bob Seger System LP has some good moments. There's some--if nothing else--interesting psychedelic material on there. Quote
Tjazz Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 Aren't alot of the early Bob Seger albums OOP on CD? Will they get re-issued now? Rhino???? Shout???? Sundazed???? Quote
Jazzmoose Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 By Night Moves I had completely lost interest in Segar, but I'll admit to having a soft spot in my heart for the Live Bullet LP. That said, I haven't had it since my college days in the late 70s and don't expect to run out looking for it any time soon. How 'bout MC5 day instead? Quote

catesta Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 Don't even get me started on Springsteen. Quote
Guest Chaney Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 Bob Seger is the poor man's Springsteen. Quote
Dan Gould Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 When I was in junior high to high school Seger was my favorite rock act, and I remain a fan, from Live Bullet to Night Moves to Stranger in Town, Against the Wind, and the one that came after, with the tune about Makin' Thunderbirds. Hope this doesn't make you think even less of me. And a serious question: If Bob Seger is the poor man's Springsteen, what is John (Cougar) Mellencamp?? Quote
Guest Chaney Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 (edited) And a serious question: If Bob Seger is the poor man's Springsteen, what is John (Cougar) Mellencamp?? The slightly younger persons poor man's Springsteen. B) I remember having a feud with a pal of mine many years ago as to who(m) was the superior songwriter: Springsteen or Tom Waits. He sided with Springsteen and I sided with Waits. No offense to those who dig Seger but we only allowed Seger to enter the comparison conversation as a surefire way to make ourselves laugh. I was (un)fortunate enough to once see Bob Seger perform live back in either the late 70s or early eighties -- mostly at the goading of some girls. So many claims were made as to how wonderful this man was in concert. "OH! You just have to see him live!" Needless to say (but I'll say it anyway): zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. (I may be wrong but claims were also made by these gals of there being a jazz influence because Seger had a sax player. ) (It's also a very real possibility that I dislike Seger because many unobtainable girls did like him. ) PS: I DESPISE those "Like a Rock" truck commercials. Must be nice for Bob though. Think of the bags of dough he's "earning" over having written that tune. Now THAT I envy. Get a haircut... damned hippie. Edited March 16, 2004 by Chaney Quote
Sundog Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 Don't you guys in Michigan have anything better to do? Actually, back in the day, me and a buddy of mine who played organ would sit around and play ABB and Bob Seger tunes until our fingers blead. Of course, I still love to play one of those band's songs. I'll leave it to your imagination to consider which band that might be... Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 I just have to post the text from the link Joe posted because it's so damn funny. Bob Seger Day -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Whereas, Born in 1945 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Bob Seger, the son of a musically-active father, grew up with a passion for rhythm & blues, forming his first group, the Decibels, at age 16; and, Whereas, With music embedded in his soul, Seger became a state wide phenomenon with five Top Ten singles in the Detroit market in 1968; and, Whereas, By 1969, together with his band, “The Bob Seger System” and record label, Capitol Records, Seger recorded “Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man”, and amongst an array of memorable songs the title track reached the Top 20 on the national charts; and, Whereas, The 70’s signaled a time of change for both America and Seger, as he garnered acclaim for his 1974 single, “Get Out of Denver”, and achieved much deserved commercial success after returning to Capitol Records and releasing “Beautiful Loser” with the “The Silver Bullet Band” in 1975; and, Whereas, The late 70’s and 1980’s ushered in a series of albums that earned both commercial and critical success including; “Night Moves”, “Stranger in Town”, “Against the Wind”, “Nine Tonight”, “The Distance”, and “Like a Rock”, all of which were certified platinum; and, Whereas, Throughout his career, Seger became known for his intense work ethic and grueling tour schedule with 260 dates in 1975, a box office record-breaking tour of America in 1996, and a hometown concert of 100,000 sold out in 57 minutes; and, Whereas, With a musical career spanning five decades, over 50 million albums sold, and millions of fans worldwide, Seger is the true voice of blue collar rock & roll and a treasure to the state of Michigan; and now therefore be it, Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim March 15, 2004, as Bob Seger Day in Michigan, in honor of his exemplary career and unmistakable voice. He has established himself as a true American classic and a genuine voice of Michigan’s rock and roll heritage. How very lame. What about Elvin Jones Day? Bob Seger has put out 17 studio albums (not counting the greatest hits compilations) and hasn't had a hit since 1986. Elvin Jones has played on OVER 500 RECORDS since the 1960s. But gosh, nobody listens to jazz, right? LAME. What about brothers Hank and Thad? What about Kenny Burrell? Tommy Flanagan? Barry Harris? There are a million more I'm forgetting... Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 His music encourages people to buy trucks. Nuff said. Quote

Lord, you know I'm an athiest, and I know we agree not to talk to each other, but please tell me he didn't just forget to add the final "A" to that "ABB"... Quote
Joe G Posted March 16, 2004 Author Report Posted March 16, 2004 How very lame. What about Elvin Jones Day? That was the first thing I thought of when I heard of this nonsense. Quote
