Hardbopjazz Posted December 20, 2019 Report Posted December 20, 2019 I don't recall seeing Wayne with all grey hair. He appears to be hard at work. Quote

jazzbo Posted December 21, 2019 Report Posted December 21, 2019 That looks more like WHITE hair to me. Believe me I know. . . my gray is starting to turn white. Quote
Jazzmonkie Posted December 21, 2019 Report Posted December 21, 2019 The first time I saw him with Weather Report in 1973 he was turning gray. When I saw WR in '74 he was no longer gray. Quote
jazzbo Posted December 21, 2019 Report Posted December 21, 2019 That makes sense. He has a very similar "slump" to my 87 year old father. Quote
CJ Shearn Posted December 21, 2019 Report Posted December 21, 2019 Glad he's looking a bit heartier in that photo. It was shocking how thin he looked earlier in the year at the Grammy ceremony. Quote

Justin V Posted December 22, 2019 Report Posted December 22, 2019 He looks well and for that I am thankful. I think I'll spin Etcetera tomorrow. Quote

JSngry Posted May 25, 2020 Report Posted May 25, 2020 Wow, haven't heard this anywhere else, but in today Mosaic email, Cuscuna says. "Wayne is no longer able to play or tour, though he continues to compose." The article he links to makes no mention of this, but still, it seems plausible, and MC is not one to tell tales out of school: https://downbeat.com/news/detail/sfjazz-to-host-streaming-tribute-fundraiser-for-wayne-shorter Sobering news... medjuck Posted May 25, 2020 Report Posted May 25, 2020 Wayne needs a fundraiser?!! The health system in this country stinks. Quote
jcam_44 Posted May 25, 2020 Report Posted May 25, 2020 SFJazz is supporting Wayne as well per their emails. Quote

I note that nobody is saying that he "needs" a fundraiser, just that they are supporting him at this time. Having said that, yes it does, and it may be that the support now is to prevent against him actually needing one going forth. Quote
BFrank Posted May 27, 2020 Report Posted May 27, 2020 Here's the schedule for SFJAZZ's streaming series which includes multiple tributes to Wayne. I believe these were all the shows hastily assembled (with Herbie's help) after he had to cancel his run last January. I got to see the 'Wayne Shorter Celebration Pt. 2' (from 1/3/19) coming up on June 26. Fridays at Five Quote
