Justin V Posted December 13, 2019 Report Posted December 13, 2019 Eddie Duran passed away on November 22nd at the age of 94. I like his work on the classic Cal Tjader/Stan Getz Sextet album, but I never got around to checking out his leader dates. He later worked and recorded with his wife, saxophonist Mad Duran. Thank you for the music, Mr. Duran, and rest in peace. Quote
mikeweil Posted December 13, 2019 Report Posted December 13, 2019 R.I.P. - I always liked this playing not only on Tjader's but also Vince Guraldi's albums, and his own date on Fantasy. I have all the CDs he made with Madeleine but haven't listened to them in quite a while. Quote
JSngry Posted December 13, 2019 Report Posted December 13, 2019 I first heard him on some weird off-brand cable/satellite TV show out of San Francisco hosted by Joe Burton. He was not a regular, but was a frequent "guest star". Had no idea who he was then, just that he as in a different class than the regulars. Gradually found out more about him, just what a fine, seasoned player he truly was. RIP for sure. Quote
ghost of miles Posted December 13, 2019 Report Posted December 13, 2019 I did a phone interview with Eddie back in 2009 for this Night Lights program about Vince Guaraldi. Seemed like an extraordinarily sweet guy. Some of his comments about playing with Guaraldi in the pre-Peanuts days are seeded throughout the show, and iirc he has the last word as well: It's Jazz, Charlie Brown: The Vince Guaraldi Story Quote
sgcim Posted December 13, 2019 Report Posted December 13, 2019 I enjoyed Eddie's playing with Guraldi, but out of reverence for the deceased, please stay away from the solo guitar album he made. RIP Quote
