Pim Posted December 6, 2019 Report Posted December 6, 2019 That’s a pity I was recently searching for a thread about him but couldn’t find anything. Was doubting to buy the Awareness and other Mainstream album. Not really a well known player but the personell on those dates look very good. Quote

'Awareness' and 'Pure Dynamite' are wonderful albums - you'll love them. "Baba Hengates" on the latter is especially wonderful. Underappreciated player. RIP. Quote

JSngry Posted December 6, 2019 Report Posted December 6, 2019 I can find no YT clip for "The Revealing Time" which is the crown jewel of the bunch. It's like Unity, only played by a local Newark Band. But of course there's a nice boogaloo cut by the same quartet, and also of course there is a clip of that up: Quote
BFrank Posted December 6, 2019 Report Posted December 6, 2019 I'm afraid this is the first I've heard of him. Not sure how that happened from reading about him now. Anyone have personnel info on: Lean On Him, Pure Dynamite and Awareness? Quote

I actually went to Discogs, but didn't see that info for some reason. Quote
Pim Posted December 7, 2019 Report Posted December 7, 2019 Yes, Bridgewater, Buster Williams, Mickey Roker, Stanley Cowell, Woody Shaw, Eddie Enderson and more of that... can’t go wrong with these guys Quote
Justin V Posted December 9, 2019 Report Posted December 9, 2019 Newark produced some fine musicians. With Connie Lester's passing earlier this year, we've lost two Newark stalwarts (and Freddie Roach sidemen). I only know Buddy Terry through Roach's The Soul Book, but Terry's leader dates look mighty interesting. Thank you for the music, Mr. Terry, and rest in peace. Quote
Michael Weiss Posted December 12, 2019 Report Posted December 12, 2019 I played a nice gig in Newark with Slide Hampton and Buddy Terry back in 2006. Very enjoyable.. Quote

JSngry Posted December 12, 2019 Report Posted December 12, 2019 Buddy Terry played a lot in a Newark-based "blues" band for a good long time. they made some records. Quote
