sidewinder Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 Fuller's makes a pretty good IPA ... and on that kind of Sam Adams level, Pete's Wicked Ales can be quite tasty, especially the Red Rush. Fuller's. Drank a lot of Fuller's at the Rose in South Ken -- their cask beer is very different -- not as malty -- I wish micro-brewers here would give real English style ale a go here (but they seldom go in that direction). Haven't tried the Pete's Red. I'll have to put it on my list. --eric 'London Pride' is the one. It has to be drunk within booting distance of the Fullers brewery in London though, to be sure that its from a fresh cask. The pub right next to 'Mole Jazz' does a damn good pint of it.. B-) Quote

catesta Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 No. I have nowhere else to go. I'm staying in Arizona. This is a good place to be. All that Schlitz has made your brain soft. Quote
Dave James Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 (edited) I live out here in Orygone, the home of microbrewed beer. I went through a phase that lasted about ten years where I wouldn't drink anything that wasn't considered what we like to call a craft beer. Hefeweitzens, Porters, this and that ale...I even remember one that was brewed with chipotle peppers. Then one day I had an epiphany. I bought me a half rack of Pabst Blue Ribbon, popped a couple, liked it and never looked back. Back in my days of playing on a traveling slow pitch softball team, I drank beer all the time. Now, I'm not sure I could tell you the last time I had one. I know in my fridge right now, there are two Coors and a Bud, but they've been there an awful long time. Even one beer these days just seems to slow me down and make me lazier than I want to be. One quick word about Canadian suds. There's one called O'Keefe's Old Style Malt Liquor that's 7.5% alchohol. No wonder you have to buy that stuff at the liquor store. Not designed for hosers. Up over and out. Edited March 30, 2005 by Dave James Quote
BbM7 Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 Only one beer I drink: my own. (Been brewing since 1978.) Quote
wesbed Posted March 30, 2005 Author Report Posted March 30, 2005 All that Schlitz has made your brain soft. And, I drink it only when I'm at home, alone. Which, I've heard, is the worst kind of beer drinker. Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 Even one beer these days just seems to slow me down and make me lazier than I want to be. The idea is to drink beer when you want to be lazy. Quote
.:.impossible Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 I was raised on Miller Lite, so that remains a staple in my diet. Guinness has replaced the milk of my childhood. I'm not a beer snob, though I think I did try for a while. Turns out bad beer is better than tap water. Might as well feel something and hydrate at the same time right? Too many "micro brews." Most every pale ale, especially India pale ale has sucked. Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is the most over-rated beer friends have tried to push on me. Acme Pale Ale crushes it. I thought I didn't like "Pale Ale" because it is widely accepted that Sierra makes THE "pale ale." Turns out Pale Ale is actually not a bad style. Wheat beers? Please. There are very few that I like enough to order over a Miller Lite. Hold the lemon. What is that all about? Samuel Smith Organic Ale. Very nice. Worth every penny. Most beer is overpriced, until you consider the price of gasoline, or water. Enjoy yourself. You'll want something to drink. Enjoy yourself. It's later than you think. Quote
Werf Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 Molson is my "generic" beer of choice, my cheap brew. I worship most Bell's varieties, in particular Amber, Pale and Two-Hearted. Love Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and go through periods where I suck back sixers of that nectar. When it's hot and I want a cold chugger, Old Milwaukee, Strohs, PBR, Bud and Miller are all fine, but they have to be ice cold. Quote
LennyH Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 Loving IPA's more and more. Mostly been drinking: Victory - Hop Devil Smuttynose - IPA and I'm loving Rogue Brutal Bitter, which is an English Style bitter. I have to be desperate to drink cheap, American beer....like when there's nothing else around. Quote
.:.impossible Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 Smuttynose! New England. That is a good brewery. Rogue is also extremely good, in small doses! Quote

LennyH Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 Smuttynose! New England. That is a good brewery. Rogue is also extremely good, in small doses! Yes! I found out about Smuttynose at beeradvocate.com. That was my first beer of theirs. What a contrast between Smuttynose and Rogue. Rogue has these beautiful bottles and Smuttynose has a cheap label with a couple of old guys in lounge chairs or whatever. But hell with the bottle, that's some sweet stuff. I'm just grateful I found a place that sells this kind of stuff. Quote
Sundog Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 Do yourself a favor and try this one. The Original Budweiser Quote

wesbed Posted April 2, 2005 Author Report Posted April 2, 2005 Friday night's dining pleasure: a glass of Corona, and a large bowl of caldo de pescado served with fresh limes, cilantro, and corn tortillas. I'll get to the Old Milwaukee after I finish the Corona and the soup. I survived the work week. The weekend is here. I'm in the mood for some Horace Silver and some Sonny Rollins. B-) Quote
WD45 Posted April 2, 2005 Report Posted April 2, 2005 (edited) I had Schlitz for the first time a week ago Wednesday. Not as offensive as some over-done pale ales I have been forced to drink. Every malt liquor I have ever had had treated me OK. Same as above. I might stand alone, but I prefer lagers over ales any day. There are exceptions, but they are few! [Newcastle being the most frequent exception.] Bohemia has been my beer of choice recently. Edited April 2, 2005 by WD45 Quote
wesbed Posted April 2, 2005 Author Report Posted April 2, 2005 I had Schlitz for the first time a week ago Wednesday. Not as offensive as some over-done pale ales I have been forced to drink. I do believe Schlitz is a very under-rated beer. I don't know if people put it down due to it's reputation/name or the price (or both). I believe, if Schlitz or Old Milwuakee were offered to beer drinkers via a no-name glass, people would accept them as good American beers. Quote
