Dave Holland Big Band - What Goes Around

I picked up a used copy of this awhile back and have finally gotten around to listening to this.  Really nice!!! Antonio Hart,  Chris Potter. Alex Sipiagin, Gary Smulyan, Steve Nelson to name a few on this ECM release from 2002. What do you guys think?

I’ve always “liked” this album, but I’ve long vacillated between liking it a LOT, and at other times thinking that while it’s certainly good, I was still kind of hoping/expecting it to be better.

Which is to say that every couple years I spin this one, and I seem to alternate between wanting to give it a solid B, and other times more like a A- (in terms of letter grades).

I like it and saw the band in Oakland on the tour. A great show!

FWIW, I suppose I'd give it a solid 4 stars (using Downbeat's 5-star scale).

All their albums are worth getting.  Is this band even still active, given the economics of running a big band today?

I had the incredible good fortune to see them several years ago for free(!) at a downtown jazz fest in San Antonio.  The year earlier they had the Wayne Shorter Quartet.  Crazy.  But nothing even remotely as good since then.

I think D Holland is always off to something else since the big band. Uncharted Territories with Evan Parker was real good.
