Clementine,

Very much enjoying the Geremia. Just my sort of a disc. His vocals remind me of Lowell George at times! Beautiful guitar playing and very well recorded.

Have you ever listened to Martin Simpson? A UK guitarist/singer who hops back and forth between blues (which I suspect was where he started) and English folk. He lived in the States for a long time but I think he's back with us now.

His recent 'Righteousness & Humidity' CD is a really beauty.

If you can take a guy from Scunthorpe having the blues its worth your attention!

Getting back to Eric and his (Mr. to you) Johnson, i finally heard some excerpts t'other day and thought it was nice if no big deal. Not much on the flaming lead work, but in pretty much every other way (singing, the rest of the band's playing) an improvement on From the Cradle.

Definitely better than From The Cradle, which got very little listening from me, and I like Clapton doing the blues. His vocals are more convincing on these Johnson songs.

Still my favorite Johnson song by Eric is Malted Milk from Unplugged.

I heard it in the background at a party the other night and I obtained a copy that I haven't listened to yet. Prior to hearing it, I had been thinking it was Eric Clapton doing solo guitar and vocals and I was somewhat disapointed to find out a band was involved - even a band with guys like Billy Preston and Steve Gadd.
