king ubu Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 Thanks, Gary! And I have not even started with #1... there goes all my money... ubu Quote
ralphie_boy Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 I was just checking out the Liebman and I'm gonna have to buy it. I just bought the Tristano/Konitz/Marsh set this week so this may end up in a trip to Divorce Court. Quote
RDK Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 I'm *very* excited about the Beirach/Liebman set! Quote
wesbed Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 I own every Select through the Duke Pearson. The new Selects seem to be arriving faster than even 'I' can buy them lately. Quote
doubleM Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 Hmmm.... maybe I'll unload all 4 of my Reece BN's on ebay, and hopefully earn enough to get 'em both!.... B) Quote
mgraham333 Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 Ouch! Two RVG batches and two Selects this month (assuming the late March date holds). I wonder if Mosaic takes million dollar bills... Quote
LAL Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 I wonder if the numbering of the Select's is a subtle psychological play on our collector mentality (some of us anyway) - i.e. resulting in our 'need/desire' to acquire ALL sets just so there are no gaps in our collection, even though we may not particularly enjoy an artist's music. I'm going to have to leave the Selects till much later - already having a tough time keeping up with the regular Mosaic sets. Quote
vibes Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 I'm surprised at how much I'm enjoying the clips from the Liebman/Beirach set. I usually can't stand soprano sax, but Liebman is very listenable and this is really excellent music. I might just have to pick this one up. Quote

A Lark Ascending Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 Yes, I think that Liebman/Beirach looks excellent. And maybe it will finally jog ECM into releasing the 'Lookout Farm' album. Quote
JSngry Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 I wonder if Mosaic takes million dollar bills... Please oh PLEASE post that story in a seperate thread, along with the photograph. I'm BEGGING you! Quote
Morganized Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 Ouch! Two RVG batches and two Selects this month (assuming the late March date holds). I wonder if Mosaic takes million dollar bills... That is funny!!!LOL Don't we all wish...... Quote
Brad Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 Well, I've got all the Reese on TOCJs so that's a pass and I don't know that much about the Liebman set but if it's a lot of soprano sax I'm inclined to take a pasadena. Quote
jazzbo Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 Yes, reissue Lookout Farm ECM! One of the real standouts they're LEAVING out. Quote
Late Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 "I wasn't trying to pass off the bill," she said. "That's ridiculous." (Is that Pat from SNL of yonder?) Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 Can anyone comment on 'Drum Ode', a Liebman disc with Beirach that ECM has reissued? Quote
Claude Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 "Drum ode" is an excellent 70's Liebman recording, with Beirach, Abercrombie and many percussionists. My favourite Liebman ECM session is "Lookout farm", but it has not been reissued on CD. I'm still hesitating to get the Liebman Mosaic, because I just bought the hatOLOGY double CD "Bookends", a duo session with pianist Marc Copland and Dave Liebman. That would be too much Liebman/piano duos at once. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 Thanks, Claude. I recall hearing a track off Lookout Farm back in early 1978 but have never tracked down the album. I very much like Beirach's recent violin/bass/piano recordings based round Bartok and Monteverdi; and some late 90s Liebman discs. Quote
RDK Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 My god, the memories - I haven't listened to "Lookout Farm" in years! I'll have to dig that LP out of the stacks. Still can't believe neither that nor Beirach's "Elm" are out on CD... Quote

Brad, Check out the samples on the Mosaic site. I'm not a Soprano fan either, but this is some good stuff. Quote

Bluerein Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 Ray: ELM is on CD although only on Japan of course (where else) the catalog number is: UCCE-3009. The EON album is also excellent (POCJ-2795). And......Lookout Farm was also released on Cd in Japan POCJ-2232 but this is long OOP of course. Cheers, Reinier Quote
vibes Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 Got the new Mosaic catalog in the mail today. The upcoming Selects are on the cover. Interesting note on the inside - they won't be distributing the Select series at retail for a while. Something about "market conditions" not being right at this time. Quote

I don't have the new Mosaic catalog yet, but interesting. Haven't the first Selects been available for about a year now? I wonder what the 'market conditions' are? Slow jazz sales? Slow CD sales in general? The retailers don't want to use their shelf space to display jazz titles? Edited March 17, 2004 by wesbed Quote
