ghost of miles Posted July 15, 2019 Report Posted July 15, 2019 Cool! Not sure how much of this material I have... maybe just one CD. I do have the complete Galaxy box and didn't realize that there was any overlap there with Artist House material. Quote
Brad Posted July 15, 2019 Report Posted July 15, 2019 Not familiar with this material but looking forward to it. Quote

felser Posted July 15, 2019 Report Posted July 15, 2019 If I'm reading the discography correctly, looks like all of it would be on the Complete Galaxy box (assuming that contains GXY-5148 and GXY-5154). I own that box, so don't need this. I want to put in a good word here for Omnivore Records, who have done exemplary work in their rock reissues of The Dream Syndicate, Game Theory, and others. Quote

Still we are talking 55 tracks here and I`m not positive this is all covered by the "Complete Galaxy Box" (unfortunatelyl don`t have it near me to check) ..... Quote

I just checked, and it is all on the Complete Galaxy Box, discs 2-4. This new release may (or may not) have better mastering, as that box is 30 years old. Quote
Brad Posted July 15, 2019 Report Posted July 15, 2019 I never bought the Galaxy box (18 or so CDs I recall, a little too many for me) so I'd be up for this. Quote
jlhoots Posted July 15, 2019 Report Posted July 15, 2019 The Galaxy box was really inexpensive back in the day. I have it. Quote

I got it from a store in Ann Arbor on a business trip in 1993, right after I got married. It had been traded in, they didn't know what to do with it, sold it to me for like $125. I jumped at the opportunity, even though I couldn't really afford it, having just bought a house and paid for a wedding. Just felt I also couldn't afford to pass on it. Have never regretted it. Quote

David Ayers Posted July 16, 2019 Report Posted July 16, 2019 My copy of the Galaxy box cost me 16 euros, no box or booklet. Such a tightwad. Quote
soulpope Posted July 16, 2019 Author Report Posted July 16, 2019 (edited) As good as the deal of the "Complete Galaxy Box" was back then, this is great music - IMO some of Art Pepper`s best late(r) career playing - and comes highly recommended .... Edited July 16, 2019 by soulpope Quote

At a minimum, anyone who enjoys Pepper's music should track down the Artist House LP So in Love. IMO, this is the cream-of-the-cream from that set. Astonishingly good. Quote

No. A European supplier was selling off quite a few of these sets at a Euro per disc. Some people did get booklets and boxes but I was at the tail end. It was the period where manufacturers generally were dumping CDs as their stock models were ceasing to work. The SQ of the Pepper is of its time, shall we say, so maybe the new issue will make the most of the Artists House tapes. That label was audiophile in intent, and in fact the Pepper Galaxies are also very nicely recorded. Not sure that you guys are interpreting the contents correctly though. I think a lot is not in the Galaxy box. Quote

I think a lot is not in the Galaxy box. I think they were called XYZ. Mine came with a rather flimsy box. As I recall someone here printed copies of the personnel & contents. $15 American seems about right. Edited July 16, 2019 by jlhoots Quote

David Ayers Posted July 16, 2019 Report Posted July 16, 2019 (edited) 27 tracks from the 49 in the new set are in the Galaxy. Or maybe 50. The track lists at Goldmine and at Omnivore differ. Edited July 16, 2019 by David Ayers Quote
