Hardbopjazz Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 (edited) It is from Mosaic records. Edited March 12, 2004 by Hardbopjazz Quote
Ragu Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 It is what it appears to be, a CD sampler that came out in the 90's of songs from various Mosaic releases. I don't believe there is anything unique (otherwise unavailable songs) to the CD as opposed to the Verve Elite sampler. Quote
brownie Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 It had eleven tracks from various Mosaic releases ranging from Jack Teagarden to Andrew Hill. It sold for $12 at the time but you could get it for $5 with the purchase of any Mosaic set. As Ragu said, no unavailable tracks inside. Quote
bertrand Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 Mosaic should do a sampler containing all the tracks that were somehow left out of their 'complete' sets (e.g. the three Tina Brooks alternates, and the two takes of 'Woody'n You' by Grant Green and Sonny Clark). Quote
brownie Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 Bertrand, with all the stuff that turned out missing from the Mosaic sets since they started business, this might make an interesting Select Quote
king ubu Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 Bertrand, with all the stuff that turned out missing from the Mosaic sets since they started business, this might make an interesting Select That would be comparable to the Classics 2CD set of leftowers. They also failed to include two alternates from Hodges' "Blues A-Plenty" in the second Hodges box. You can't blame them on the Green - these were probably considered un-releasable or even unknown at the time. ubu Quote
JSngry Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 Mosaic should do a sampler containing all the tracks that were somehow left out of their 'complete' sets (e.g. the three Tina Brooks alternates, and the two takes of 'Woody'n You' by Grant Green and Sonny Clark). I actually suggested this to Cuscuna in a letter ca. 1991 - "The Complete Mosaic Fuckups" I called it. He wrote back saying that he loved the idea and the title. But let's get that Braxton/Arista box out before we focus on this, ok? Quote
king ubu Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 ... "The Complete Mosaic Fuckups"... But hey, with that title the box would have to be at least 12x12" - so that everyone can wonder wtf that thing up on the shelf is... ubu Quote
bertrand Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 In superb irony, it would later be discovered that the "Complete Mosaic Fuckups' was mising some tracks! Seriously, my somewhat tongue in-cheek suggestion was in no way a stab at Michael - he does an amazing job. But by calling these sets 'Complete', he's setting himself up. This situation has actually kept me from buying the Coltrane Impulse! box. Now that the family is giving up some private stuff, I'm going to wait a bit. Bertrand. Quote
BruceH Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 There's a similar "West Coast Classics" sampler that's actually very nice to have. Quote
DrJ Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 I love the idea of the "complete fuckups," brilliant. I'm sure there were at least a few more I've come across. Great idea for a Select. Quote
