Aggie87 Posted June 1, 2019 Report Posted June 1, 2019 (edited) Roky Erickson passed away today, at the age of 71 in Austin. He and the 13th Floor Elevators were just a little before my time, but I discovered him from that tribute album that came out around '90. The music, lyrics, and his personal story all intrigued me. Went back and explored alot of his work over the following years, and loved it. Not sure what else to say - Rest in Peace, Roky. Edited June 1, 2019 by Aggie87 Quote
clifford_thornton Posted June 1, 2019 Report Posted June 1, 2019 So sad to hear. Glad he got a reprieve in the last couple of decades. RIP. Quote
sgcim Posted June 1, 2019 Report Posted June 1, 2019 RIP. There was a good documentary film on him a while ago. Quote
jazzbo Posted June 1, 2019 Report Posted June 1, 2019 (edited) Roky lived in our neighborhood in Austin in the mid-'eighties for a while. A roommate invited him to one of our parties. He came and hung out very quietly, rather gloomily. In one of the bands I was in we covered "The Kingdom of Heaven." RIP Roky. Edited June 1, 2019 by jazzbo Quote

AaronG Posted June 2, 2019 Report Posted June 2, 2019 I ran into Roky at a grocery store in Austin on Halloween 1996. He bought chocolate and cigarettes. He wasn’t in great shape mentally at the time and someone was escorting him but he was nice. I got the chance to tell him I had his great CD “All That May Do My Rhyme.” Quote
