Teasing the Korean Posted May 23, 2019 Report Posted May 23, 2019 There doesn't seem to be a thread about this recent-ish box set, consisting of five classic Cuban jam session albums recorded for the Panart label. Quote
JSngry Posted May 23, 2019 Report Posted May 23, 2019 Ordered! So this is on Craft, which is a Concord label...does Concord now own the PanArt catalog? If so...oh my god...the treasures that are there... https://www.udiscovermusic.com/stories/complete-cuban-jam-sessions-interview/ Quote
sonnymax Posted May 23, 2019 Report Posted May 23, 2019 All five volumes available for streaming at Spotify. Quote
JSngry Posted May 23, 2019 Report Posted May 23, 2019 Ron McMaster's last job apparently. I have a few of the LPs, that PanArt studio sounded great to begin with, can't wait to hear how he's, hopefully, refined the originals for digital optimalism. Quote
Matthew Posted May 23, 2019 Report Posted May 23, 2019 Thanks for the heads-up, it's also on Apple Music Quote
Big Beat Steve Posted May 23, 2019 Report Posted May 23, 2019 Out of curiosity ... Was the 5-LP set announced on various sites linked above actually issued? The clickable links in the texts that refer to the LPs then lead you to the CD reissue. Quote

JSngry Posted May 23, 2019 Report Posted May 23, 2019 I'm disappointed, but not surprised, that the Fatboy sizes of the Panart t-shirt are all sold out. You get your medium or you get your small or else you don't get you a t-shirt at all. #tellingtshirtdemographic Maybe Panart will be the Bluenote Cultlabel of the 21st century. Quote

JSngry Posted May 23, 2019 Report Posted May 23, 2019 Right now I'm on the cusp (here's hoping...) of getting into an XL. To get all the down to a medium will take more diet than I likely have life! Quote
Jim Duckworth Posted May 23, 2019 Report Posted May 23, 2019 Thank you for posting! Now I feel that I must have this..... Quote
JSngry Posted May 23, 2019 Report Posted May 23, 2019 What else will Craft/Concord have for us if this set goes well. A big ol' bunch of Fajardo, perhaps? Quote
djcavanagh Posted May 23, 2019 Report Posted May 23, 2019 Download is very reasonably priced at 7digital. Quote

mikeweil Posted May 25, 2019 Report Posted May 25, 2019 (edited) I'd rather count on our friends in Barcelona, who reissued the jam sessions years ago see https://www.freshsoundrecords.com/cachao-albums/5080-descargas-the-havana-sessions-2-cd-set.html -, and just annoinced this: Edited May 25, 2019 by mikeweil Quote
JSngry Posted June 10, 2019 Report Posted June 10, 2019 Listening to this now, easy to make the whole set in one day. A really nice book (not a booklet!) comes with it, and the sound is FANTASTIC. I've had various "aftermarket" versions of this material over the years, as well as a few Panart LPs picked up at a Cuban grocery store (where else?) and this is the best sounding issue of this material, period. not even close. Hopefully more issues from the Panart catalog are forthcoming. As useful as the other table scraps (even the original LPs weren't this good sounding) have been for this hungry boy, this is the real full-course meal, served at the adult table. Ain't nothing like the real thing. Quote

JSngry Posted June 12, 2019 Report Posted June 12, 2019 If nothing else, we now have three plausible options - and one perhaps likely - as to who the otherworldly (like, literally) "PER-FEE-DEE-AH" voice is. That's been a mystery to me for 40+ years and I just assumed it was going to stay that way forever. But now... Anybody who tells you that that voice is the FIRST thing you never forget about that record is either lying or else played Side 2 first. Quote
Bluesnik Posted June 15, 2019 Report Posted June 15, 2019 So I finally ordered it together with the Panart T-Shirt. After a small glitch the order has finally shipped now. Quote

Teasing the Korean Posted June 25, 2020 Author Report Posted June 25, 2020 One year later. Still grooving to this box set. Listening now with fizzy water. I don't drink Monday-Thursday. Looking forward to hearing it with rum cocktails this weekend. Quote
