ghost of miles Posted May 13, 2019 Report Posted May 13, 2019 I was just listening to her Duet album with Andre Previn a couple of days ago: Doris Day dies at 97 Quote
Matthew Posted May 13, 2019 Report Posted May 13, 2019 Sad, she was a very good singer, actress, someone who live a very full life. RIP Quote
mr jazz Posted May 13, 2019 Report Posted May 13, 2019 Latin for Lovers is a spectacular vocal achievement. RIP Quote
Jim Duckworth Posted May 13, 2019 Report Posted May 13, 2019 I am really glad to see Ms Day getting some love on this forum. I find some of her vocal performances to be of the highest quality. Quote
catesta Posted May 13, 2019 Report Posted May 13, 2019 She had a beautiful voice and I very much admired the work she did and her foundation does for animal welfare. RIP Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted May 13, 2019 Report Posted May 13, 2019 I had forgotten that her son Terry Melcher died several years back. Love Doris's Duets album. That Latin album has eluded me. Quote
Mark Stryker Posted May 13, 2019 Report Posted May 13, 2019 Real skills as a singer -- seriously underrated. From 1950, with Harry James on trumpet. Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted May 13, 2019 Report Posted May 13, 2019 A nice long life. She had a lovely voice. RIP. Quote
GA Russell Posted May 13, 2019 Report Posted May 13, 2019 RIP Doris! When I am not in a heavy mood, Lover Come Back is my favorite movie. Quote
Neal Pomea Posted May 13, 2019 Report Posted May 13, 2019 (edited) I agree with Alan's remarks about her some time back. A much underrated jazz singer with a great voice and phrasing. We were lucky to have had her. Edited May 13, 2019 by Neal Pomea Quote
Larry Kart Posted May 15, 2019 Report Posted May 15, 2019 Check out her first film, "Romance on the High Seas," with Jack Carson (he's excellent) and some fine numbers with Doris and the Page Cavanaugh Trio. This is the movie in which she sang "It's Magic," sexy times ten. It's on YouTube in two versions. Quote
Matthew Posted May 15, 2019 Report Posted May 15, 2019 Love Me Or Leave Me. Doris Day & James Cagney, it's one of my favorite Day movies. Quote
JSngry Posted May 15, 2019 Report Posted May 15, 2019 Is this as potentially as interesting tune as it seems to be? Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted May 15, 2019 Report Posted May 15, 2019 (edited) So many sad things that I didn't know about. Her son Terry Melcher said that the nicest thing his dad ever did for Doris was dying in 1968. Edited May 15, 2019 by Teasing the Korean Quote

The two volumes of "The Uncollected Doris Day" with the trio are tremendous. https://www.amazon.com/Doris-Day-Page-Cavanaugh-Trio/dp/B001LK2QWS Quote
