btw, this guy is not the first place I've heard this topic discussed....that would have been about 30 minutes ago in the latest New York magazine set of mini-articles about the evolution of the plagiarism esthetic in pop music. But I had never heard of the "Scotch Snap" before, and you know, the internet hates a (knowledge) vacuum, so...I think he presents well, but obviously (now, at least...) this is a known thing, both the rhythm itself and its increased use in rapping.

Speech rhythms/patterns in music, interesting. Trans-cultural (continental!) pollinations even more so. Appropriations resulting in perhaps permanently blurred lines as a result of all that, hey, here we are.
