mjazzg Posted March 25, 2019 Report Posted March 25, 2019 Arriving next month. Interesting read here https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/art-ensemble-of-chicago-roscoe-mitchell-moor-mother-interview-811024/ Moor Mother seems a very good fit, can't wait to hear the collaboration and the album as a whole Quote
Patrick Posted March 25, 2019 Report Posted March 25, 2019 Thanks for mentioning Moor Mother. I'm not familiar with her or her work. She and Roscoe are slated to perform a free concert on the Millennium Stage at Kennedy Center this Thursday, just prior to a show by Mary Halvorson's Code Girl. I don't know if Roscoe has any other performances lined up in DC area around this time. Quote
JSngry Posted March 25, 2019 Report Posted March 25, 2019 Not familiar with her either, but this collaboration should be interesting. I'm in. Quote
mjazzg Posted March 25, 2019 Author Report Posted March 25, 2019 Check her out in Irreversible Entanglements Quote
clifford_thornton Posted March 26, 2019 Report Posted March 26, 2019 I've not heard the Irreversible Entanglements record, but live they are serious business. I look forward to hearing the new Art Ensemble disc; was very enticed reading some of what Tomeka Reid had to say. These Moor Mother cuts are no joke. Quote
mjazzg Posted March 26, 2019 Author Report Posted March 26, 2019 The record is great. Live was something else Quote
BFrank Posted March 27, 2019 Report Posted March 27, 2019 (edited) Saw them at Big Ears. Blew the roof off of the Bijou Theatre! Pictured: Moor Mother, Don Moye, Roscoe Edited March 30, 2019 by BFrank Quote
Patrick Posted March 29, 2019 Report Posted March 29, 2019 Here is what was pitched as the US debut (following appearance at Berlin Jazz Festival) of the Roscoe Mitchell with Moor Mother duo. I'll freely admit to not being deeply familiar with the Roscoe cannon, but I'm not sure what to make of his contribution here. Interesting poetry/soundscape performance by MM but to me would have been more accurately billed as Moor Mother with Roscoe Mitchell. Millennium Stage Quote
orchiddoctor Posted April 23, 2019 Report Posted April 23, 2019 As both a professor of poetry and a fan of the AEC since 1974, I’m revulsed. Mother Moore is an inept poet whose recitations are trite and annoying. If this is the new path, i’m Gone. Roscoe is still sublime, but this shit? Quote
king ubu Posted April 24, 2019 Report Posted April 24, 2019 my copy has shipped a few days ago, but I'll be on vacation from tomorrow, so I'll have to wait ... Quote
