Got mine yesterday via Amazon.  Sampled the sound.  Similar to the new Tyner/Henderson/DeJohnette, it's functional but definitely sub-optimal, the drums being the victim here.  But I wouldn't be without this one.

I have a number of live Tolliver quartet dates and I'm thinking this is another of much the same so not entirely essential.

Anyone like to suggest otherwise, I'm open to persuasion...

I feel the same way.

I'd be especially interested to hear how this new archival release compares with Live at The Loosdrecht Jazz Festival (aka Grand Max) -- both musically-speaking and AQ-wise -- since both feature John Hicks in the pianist's chair.

Under these premises the vast majority of archival releases is not entirely essential 😎 ....

But probably "essential" is not the right parameter, Charles Tolliver in his peak years always warms my heart .... as simple as that ....
