Disc 1 of 2.  An interesting collection of Motown songs performed by singers other than the Motown performers who made the song famous.  They aren't really "cover" versions though, because in many cases the singer heard here recorded their version of the song before the hit version was recorded by another Motown act.  This was pretty common at Motown back then and makes for some fascinating listening.  Hearing The Supremes sing "Uptight (Everything's Alright)" or Smokey & The Miracles sing "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" (recorded before both Gladys Knight's and Marvin Gaye's versions) is great.  Any new Kim Weston is good news and I love her version of "Come And Get These Memories" here, but for some reason, they had her record an almost dirge-like version of "Stop! In The Name of Love" that sounds really odd.

It was really interesting to hear this early version of what would become a classic for Jimmy Ruffin.  Same backing track, but still a very different song.  It demonstrates how songs could be workshopped around with different performers.  Here are the Isley Brothers:

WARNING!!! -- If you are intrepid enough to listen to the next song, you most certainly do not want to be imbibing any liquid when Mr. Tony Martin hits the chorus (hard!) or you will be susceptible to the "spit-take to end all spit-takes".

That one's a "what were they thinking" item for sure.

Just watched the doc “Echo Canyon,” which tells the story of the Laurel Canyon scene where a lot of rock stars lived. Jakob Dylan talks to a lot of people from that time like Roger McGuinn, Brian Wilson, Michelle Phillips, Crosby and Stills and Nash, and the late Tom Petty; and Dylan and his mates like Beck and Fiona Apple song some of the songs from 1964-67 in a  concert held in 2015. Very enjoyable.
