The original Matt Wallace mix of the Replacements' Don't Tell A Soul is revelatory--I always loved these songs, in spite of the late-80s big-hair makeover they'd been given.  And man oh man, do they sound even better as originally intended:

Like everyone I knew, I loathed DTAS, but I agree this new Matt Wallace version is revelatory. If it had been released instead of that cursed Lord-Algae version I probably still wouldn't have been happy--I was waiting for Pleased to Meet Me Part II--but I would have hated it less. Now however I think I might like it more than All Shook Down.

Good to know. I've been wondering about that set. There are also live cuts.

Have always loved "The House at Pooneil Corners".

The bonus cuts on the cd are unusual. They were right to lead them off the released version.

landmark album.  too far ahead of its time to be a big seller (no fm rock market yet).

Somehow I don’t remember the album but that album cover is iconic, at least to me.

"I Think of You" is one of the British Invasion era UK hits that I never understood why it didn't make it big in the USA.  May be third behind the Searchers' "When You Walk in the Room" (which at least scraped the bottom of the top 40, but should have been huge) and the Hollies' "I'm Alive" (which didn't even make the top 100 here).  "It's Love That Really Counts" and "Wishin' and Hopin'" are also pretty wonderful.
