Yep.  Latter-day "hidebound" bluegrass can get really monotonous.

In jazz, there's an expectation of (more or less) innovation.  That's not the case with bluegrass.  In fact, in bluegrass, adherence to tradition is considered a virtue.  In that regard, bluegrass has more in common with the Blues (the genre, not the form), rather than jazz.

Agreed!  I was there last year.  :P

Nice! I've been a couple of times even though I don't consider myself a bluegrass fan. It's a nice festival they've got there. The down home feeling they cultivate due to the entire community being involved is pretty unique.

I have an extensive bluegrass collection, including a lot of Tony Rice. I got to see him twice with Norman Blake, though it was after his voice turned gravelly. He was a fine singer and he died too young. How many bluegrass instrumentalists record something like "Nardis," very few, I would bet.

Very good - the album itself is great, and the extra disc has a couple of instrumentals, remixes, live tracks, and covers - pretty much what you'd expect, but it sounds good and the music is solid.

Well - OK then! 👍

More a gritty instrumental funk record than a gospel one, although there's a bit of the latter on the vocal tracks.

Released on the Cleveland, Ohio based Bounty Records label, which issued a large number of quality Gospel records (mainly 45's) ....

Margie Joseph "Hear The Words, FeelThe Feeling" (Cotillion) 1976 .... another proof, that (aside Aretha Franklin) Atlantic couldn`t handle female soul singers properly .... sometimes it just helped switching to a subsidiary label (aka escape the clutches of Arif Mardin) .... Lamont Dozier was a capable producer and the lady had a good voice ....
