I got to chat with Eric Bloom briefly about it back in January. I think "The Alchemist" is his standout moment on the album. np: Zabriskie Point Soundtrack 2 cd edition Useless trivia - the house that was blown up at the end of the film is about a mile from my house here in AZ. (the house used in the movie wasn't actually blown up, but a full size model was. The model's location atop a rocky outcrop is also about 2 miles from my house). That house today: A lot of good songs on that album - also Nightmare Epiphany, The Return of St Cecilia and Florida Man Wild that you live so close to that house! Quote

IIRC (and I often don't) BOC was supposed to do some music for the film "Heavy Metal" and though the deal fell through ,they released some songs that mention characters in the movie. (Sorry to be so vague but, though I was involved in the film and the soundtrack, I didn't know much about heavy metal music so left that to others. I did meet Bruce Lundvall who was representing Columbia records, so he and I talked about jazz while others dealt with the rock. I remember showing rough cuts of the film to Ronnie Dio and Don Felder but had no idea who they were. ) Edited yesterday at 06:27 AM by medjuck Quote

Per Wikipedia: "Blue Öyster Cult wrote and recorded a song called "Vengeance (The Pact)" for the film, but the producers declined to use the song because the lyrics provided a capsulized summary of the "Taarna" vignette. "Veteran of the Psychic Wars" was used instead." Re-reading the lyrics for Vengeance, it does essentially tell the story of Taarna, so I guess it makes sense that it wouldn't have been included. Not sure how I would classify them, actually. Quote

The entire "Heavy Metal" soundtrack isn't really a bunch "heavy metal" musicians, so Blue Oyster Cult fits fine. From the track listing, maybe Black Sabbath fits the bill, but most of the others are "What the heck are they doing on there?" musicians. Donald Fagen? Cheap Trick? Stevie Nicks? Devo? Sammy Hagar – Heavy Metal Riggs – Heartbeat Devo – Working In The Coal Mine Blue Öyster Cult – Veteran Of The Psychic Wars Cheap Trick – Reach Out Don Felder – Heavy Metal (Takin' A Ride) Donald Fagen – True Companion Nazareth – Crazy (A Suitable Case For Treatment) Riggs – Radar Rider Journey – Open Arms Grand Funk Railroad – Queen Bee Cheap Trick – I Must Be Dreamin' Black Sabbath – The Mob Rules Don Felder – All Of You Trust – Prefabricated Stevie Nicks – Blue Lamp Quote
Aggie87 Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago I believe the movie was named "Heavy Metal" because it was based on the comic magazine of the same name that was popular in those days - not because they intended to use heavy metal music as the soundtrack. The comic featured short stories/vignettes that were generally unrelated but often were sci-fi or fantasy related, and usually PG or maybe R rated on occasion. The movie did essentially the same thing, but connected the stories. So they used current or established rock musicians for the most part. Although Riggs and Trust were bands I wasn't aware of prior to the movie's release. As a side note, Jerry Riggs, the main guy from Riggs, is a guitar player in 38 Special now, and they play "Radar Rider" as a spotlight track for him. Quote
