duaneiac Posted March 10, 2021 Report Posted March 10, 2021 I've had a delightful time with this 3CD set: I previously only knew (and loved) Barbara Lewis from her two big hits, "Hello, Stranger" and "Baby, I'm Yours", so I was curious to see what some of the rest of her music sounded like. Some of the material included here has aged better than others, but there really is not a "dud" track in the lot. I love the sound of her voice and she was clearly a versatile performer, but that same versatility may have hampered her ability to form a core musical identity. This is a great track which shoulda been a bigger hit -- Even the most jaded of studio musicians must have had some fun playing that strings chart. Quote

Dub Modal Posted March 11, 2021 Report Posted March 11, 2021 From '77. I sense a good amount of Lee Perry Black Ark production inspiration on this one. Quote

Rabshakeh Posted March 12, 2021 Report Posted March 12, 2021 I love that King Kong. It was one of my entry routes into jazz. The whole record has a real special aura, at least on LP. The CD reissue was a real butcher’s job. Quote
