Anyone can choose trio records by Sonny, Ornette, Cecil, Air, etc. if they choose to, but I assume that most already know about those. I'll start with a few: Roy Campbell Pyramid: Communion Don Ellis: Out of Nowhere - I like this one better than How Time Passes. Louis Cottrell Trio: Bourbon Street Quote

(Ooops -- can't put my hands on my copy, damn it, but I think Kenny Davern may be on it too.) Don't recall the Altschul that well, and I'm not a big Irabagon fan, but my memory is that Altschul himself is in excellent form. Quote

At least it is in my book. Not sure whether these qualify as obscure -- but they're some of my favorite (non-piano) trio records: with Tony Malaby & Tom Rainey with Chris Potter & Bill Stewart This isn't what you might expect from these three musicians.
