GA Russell Posted February 18, 2019 Report Posted February 18, 2019 So Concord has licensed Prestige material to Ace? Quote
paul secor Posted February 18, 2019 Report Posted February 18, 2019 That's been the case for 30 years or so. Quote
felser Posted February 18, 2019 Report Posted February 18, 2019 And that (fabulous) Bartz set has been out since 1997. Quote

felser Posted February 18, 2019 Report Posted February 18, 2019 That one is complete. The one Fantasy released in the US is missing one cut, Du(Rain), which is really annonying, given that they had room for it. BTW, for the uninitiated, these albums were, to me, Andy Bey's finest moment. Quote
mjzee Posted February 18, 2019 Author Report Posted February 18, 2019 The Ace is almost complete... "Track 8" (Blue) "has been edited down by two minutes in order to enable us to fit these 2 LPs on 1 CD." Quote

Looking at the tracklisting of those 2 albums, Fantasyjazz has only 11 tracks (no "Du" there) vs. 12 tracks on Ace, while Ace's "Blue" is missing 2 minutes from the end. Tough decision. Even worse is the Japanese paper sleeve version of Uhuru (UCCO-9465) that would have room for all the music but still uses the same edit as Ace. Pathetic. Somebody could do this right today, since they know how to go the necessary 81 minutes or whatever on a CD. They could have done it right then by adding a second CD, Taking two minutes out of "Blue" is worse than leaving off another cut. Me, I would have dropped "Parted" if I had to fit it onto one CD in 199x. Quote
JSngry Posted February 18, 2019 Report Posted February 18, 2019 Fortunately, I have LPs that contain all the music, as well as mp3 players that aren't dependent on CD capacity limits! Quote
