Chuck Nessa Posted February 12, 2019 Report Posted February 12, 2019 (edited) Sugar Hill was a surprise to me as well. I see that Barry Poss sold the label to the Welk Group (owner of Vanguard) in 1998. On April Fools Day, 2015 Concord purchased Vanguard and Sugar Hill from Welk. Dang. Ken Dryden Posted February 13, 2019 Report Posted February 13, 2019 Buy up labels and delete their catalogs en masse... What a mess! Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted February 13, 2019 Report Posted February 13, 2019 a few years back i told members to buy anything they wanted from Fantasy. Quote

Sell music for soundtracks? Chuck? Anyone? I know they've leased out some of the Vanguard titles. Real Gone Music (the legit American label) put out several of the early Larry Coryell albums in the past two-three years. But I can't imagine that was their plan. They are just sitting on things like the Joan Baez catalog, as well as interesting lesser lights like Eric Andersen. Quote

I did my best, but there was too much ... still have some gaps I'd like to close, but with them selling undisclosed CD-Rs via effin' A, I'm unwilling to buy anything unless I can lay hands on it and actually check. medjuck Posted February 13, 2019 Report Posted February 13, 2019 (edited) Is much from the Concord catalogue available on streaming services? That seems to be the main source of income for record companies nowadays. (We may soon have to stop calling them "record companies".) Edited February 13, 2019 by medjuck Quote
Ken Dryden Posted February 15, 2019 Report Posted February 15, 2019 It ought to be illegal to sell CDRs without labeling them as such. I've been the victim of them a few times through ImportCDs, I refuse to pay a full retail price for lesser quality products. Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted February 15, 2019 Report Posted February 15, 2019 my dawgs I actually don't know if we're approaching this from the right direction- think about the people in 3rd world countries might want to experience coltrane prestige box, the only way that music might be able to reach them, is through these shady new issues- Quote
paul secor Posted February 15, 2019 Report Posted February 15, 2019 You could always move to a third world country and give the people your records and CDs. Quote
