We have a "barn" cat that is supposed to take care of any rats or other small furries near the horses - too wild for a lot of human interaction but we do feed him whenever he shows up which is pretty regularly and he's a helluva lot more grateful. Often he runs alongside on the way to the barn or crosses in front of you and winds around your leg. He tolerates a stroke on the side but that's really it. We’ve given up on getting him inside. He apparently doesn’t trust people but his fur isn’t rough, leading us to believe that he belongs to someone. The other day when it was 3 degrees out my wife grabbed him and brought him inside but the other cats hissed at him and he was clearly unhappy so we let him out and he was quite happy to be outside again.
