duaneiac Posted January 5, 2019 Report Posted January 5, 2019 They are all new to me. Has any one here heard any of these young musicians in performance? https://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2019/01/12-new-jazz-artists-to-watch-in-2019.html Quote
jlhoots Posted January 5, 2019 Report Posted January 5, 2019 Jaimie Branch Some of the others look like they could be interesting. Quote
Ken Dryden Posted January 5, 2019 Report Posted January 5, 2019 I reviewed Chris Beck's recent CD and can recommend it. I've only heard one track by Veronica Swift on another artist's CD, but Ken Peplowski told me she is one of his favorite vocalists. Quote

kh1958 Posted January 5, 2019 Report Posted January 5, 2019 I saw part of a set by Jamison Ross at the New Orleans Jazz Fest in 2017; I really disliked what I heard, particularly his unbearable vocals. Sasha Masakowski I heard sitting in with Tatiana Eva Marie at the 2018 New Orleans Jazz Fest; she was fine; I like the playing of her father, guitarist Steve Masakowski (with Astral Project) quite a lot. CJ Shearn Posted January 8, 2019 Report Posted January 8, 2019 Connie Han I have interviewed and really dig her playing. Quote
makpjazz57 Posted January 14, 2019 Report Posted January 14, 2019 Just heard drummer Chris Beck at Scullers/Boston, and he can play! He was with trumpeter Terell Stafford's group on 1/5/19 and he played with sensitivity and really propelled the band when called for. Vocalist Veronica Swift - also very talented and she has a few tracks well worth listening to on pianist Benny Green's new recording, Then and Now. Great ears and innate sense of swing. I love/loved her Dad, pianist Hod O'Brien and her mom, Stephanie Nakasian can "sang," too! Quote
