JSngry Posted December 30, 2018 Report Posted December 30, 2018 No real "news" here, but there is footage and besides, it's nice to get the name out in the open every so often. What is of interest to me in particular is the Dumont Network show. There's a Roku channel dedicated to what little surviving Dumont footage exists, and the last I looked, there was none of Hazel Scott's show. Let's hope that some is found, or if any has already been found that it gets up on that outlet. Quote
MomsMobley Posted December 31, 2018 Report Posted December 31, 2018 below from Pittsburgh Courier 1 Dec 1945; note use of the term "DAR-ism", let Daughters of the American Revolution be as offended as they like you know there's a bio by woman named Karen Chilton? i've not read yet but it can't not be interesting https://www.amazon.com/Hazel-Scott-Pioneering-Journey-Hollywood/dp/0472034472 Quote

mikeweil Posted March 21, 2019 Report Posted March 21, 2019 (edited) Did not intend to bore anyone, just did not look at that two pianos thread. One cannot read all there is on here .... Edited October 12, 2020 by mikeweil Quote
JSngry Posted March 21, 2019 Author Report Posted March 21, 2019 Also, note that the two-piano thread contained a link back to this thread, which preceded it. So we not only have redundancy, we have circular redundancy. Circle gets the square. Rectangles on the house, triangles in the kitchen, let's all eat fruit and multiply before we divide. Quote
Patrick Posted March 24, 2019 Report Posted March 24, 2019 Washington Performing Arts Society intends to commemorate her centennial with several performances next year. Here is a flyer that includes links to one or more of the stories linked to above, including a Smithsonian piece by the aforementioned Karen Chilton. Quote
ghost of miles Posted October 12, 2020 Report Posted October 12, 2020 The Karen Chilton bio that Moms references above is very good--currently rereading while I work on a Night Lights show about Scott (it's her centennial year, but I've been meaning to do a program ever since I first read Chilton's book not long after it came out). Patrick Posted February 16, 2022 Report Posted February 16, 2022 The WPAS centennial celebration, delayed a year, now premieres virtually this evening (7pm ET) and will be available for a limited time. Details Quote
ghost of miles Posted February 23, 2022 Report Posted February 23, 2022 Somehow never got around to posting the Night Lights centennial tribute in this thread: To Be Somebody: Hazel Scott Quote
Gheorghe Posted February 24, 2022 Report Posted February 24, 2022 Anyway, she lived in Paris in the 60´s. Once I got some unissued private Bud and there is a duo of Hazel Scott with Bud. There were quite close. Hazel Scott did a long interview with Art Taylor in the early 70´s , it´s in the book "Notes and Tones". Quote
