dig dis Posted March 10, 2004 Report Posted March 10, 2004 Exactly what are these things, you know, the ones with the blue tinted covers, some say "The Blue Note Collection." Are they just like US reissues from the same period? Who did the remastering, and with what sources? How do they compare with US or Japanese versions. Anybody have the scoop on these things? Thanks for sharing any info. Quote
Uncle Skid Posted March 10, 2004 Report Posted March 10, 2004 I've been curious about these reissues as well. I almost ordered Blue Mitchell's Boss Horn from Jazzmatazz, but ended up getting the Mosaic set instead. There's a whole bunch of useful information on this thread: Spanish Blue Note Series Quote
street singer Posted March 10, 2004 Report Posted March 10, 2004 (edited) I've picked up quite a few of these recently and am actually very happy with them. I mean, it's music that I would've otherwise paid twice as much (or more) to acquire....what's there to complain about?! Yeah, the covers are blue...but you can print your own full-color covers on any decent printer (which is what I did). A lot of these have TOCJ markings on the inserts. I don't know if it's been definitively confirmed that they are indeed TOCJ remasters, but according to many who are more familiar with that series than I am, they certainly sound like TOCJ's. The ones w/o TOCJ markings appear to be the 80's Ron McMasters versions. Bottom line: it's music at a good price that you would otherwise have to pay quite a bit more for. I say give 'em a shot...
