I'd been wondering if he was ailing as Egon posted some reminiscences the other day, but the eclectic and very intriguing composer Galt MacDermot has apparently passed. What a good run, though:

First Cannonball Adderley record I bought was African Waltz.  The song got a lot of play because McDermot lived there at the time.

Yes, I loved and still love the music to it.

RIP. I played Hair with Billy Butler, and he raved about Galt's writing for GM's New Pulse Band.

He is not too well known even under big band fans.

I happen to have one vinyl by pure accident because it looked interesting in a mailorder service offer.

Down Beat gave it a rating of 3 1/2 stars. Here are the  LP scans & the review
