Gimme some Pi (Recordings)

Hi all,

Pi Recordings is holding a 30% Bandcamp sale for Black Friday and Small Business Saturday, so I’d love recommendations.

 

FWIW I own the following already, all of which I’d recommend:

7 Steve Colemans (personal fave = Synovial Joints)

9 Henry Threadgills (personal faves = This Brings Us To volumes 1 & 2)

3 Muhal Richard Abrams

Rudresh Mahanthappa and Bunky Green, Apex (great one)

They're one of those labels that if you like or think you might like the artist, go ahead and dig into that Pi. Using those guidelines, I've not heard a bum release out of them yet.

I agree. Never been disappointed by a Pi 

Lehman octets, quartet or trio sit well with the Colemans

Fieldwork were a great band before individual careers took off

Sorey's are pretty intense listens

I couldn't get the "Twitter" discount code to work. I have some things to get, but that 30% off at this time of year was a real incentivizer to get them now.

Nor I.  I tried to pick up the Sam Rivers and the first Threadgill release. Inputting "Twitter" into the discount code box did not work.

I mean, I hope it was just a few people, in which case, they owe me nothing, if anything, I owe them. But otoh, they're too young to start getting flaky like Mosaic keeps trying to do, you know, now you see it, then you don't, hey, don't blame us, this is all OVERWHELMING and shit like that.

But yeah, I do need to give them some money, and 30% off means...30% off. right? The math does itself so I can do something else. Modern!

First, I should have asked how your Thanksgiving was. First one in the new house, so hopefully it was a good one.

I am waiting for my membership to be approved so I can’t respond. Anyway I can ask you to respond on my behalf? I can create a special code for people who are commenting now for them to use since they didn’t realize the sale ended on Saturday night.

Because of BandCamp’s one day waiving of pay sharing, I went on a Pi binge.

I bought 2 Liberty Ellmans, 2 Fieldworks, and 3 Steve Lehmans.

And because of their - twice now - failings to get the "special code" discount thing worked out, I'm just like, hey, fuck the specials, I'll just buy some Pi when I feel like it...which is often enough!

It's a great label, wholly worthy of support, just..."special sales" do not seem to be what they're going to do well. Expectations adjusted accordingly, enthusiasm stays in place.
