EKE BBB Posted November 7, 2018 Report Posted November 7, 2018 With new transfers from restored original source discs by Doug Benson. Rivermont/Off The Record (David Sager) collaboration. https://rivermontrecords.com/products/1170?variant=13047284170813 Quote
Ted O'Reilly Posted November 7, 2018 Report Posted November 7, 2018 Ordered. Thanks for the link. Quote
Late Posted November 8, 2018 Report Posted November 8, 2018 Thanks for bringing this to our attention. [Import CDs current price.] I'll be picking this up at some point. (Still haven't purchased the newly restored Fletcher Henderson set!) Quote
brownie Posted November 8, 2018 Report Posted November 8, 2018 Do the new transfers add much to the NORK 2-CD set from Retrieval Records that John R.T. Davis produced back in 2001? Unless proved wrong, I am sticking with that one.... Quote

I have the Retrieval edition referred to above, but hard to take a pass on something with any kind of Off The Record involvement... I'll probably get. Thanks for the heads-up. Quote

ghost of miles Posted November 20, 2018 Report Posted November 20, 2018 (edited) Just got this in the mail today—the sound is amazing. (I’ve only listened to disc 1 so far, but can’t imagine there’ll be a dropoff in quality on disc 2.) Excellent booklet, too; I’d say this is my favorite reissue/historical release of the year, or at least neck-and-neck with Mosaic’s Savory set. Edited November 20, 2018 by ghost of miles Quote

ghost of miles Posted November 25, 2018 Report Posted November 25, 2018 Listening again this Sunday morning, and the sonic detail and clarity of this reissue is stunning. This set is really deepening my appreciation for NORK, and the notes on both the band and the recordings are well-researched and insightful. Highly recommended for anybody with an interest in early jazz. Quote
medjuck Posted November 25, 2018 Report Posted November 25, 2018 I agree with all of the above (and I downloaded it). Quote
miles65 Posted November 27, 2018 Report Posted November 27, 2018 I love the transfers and the restauraties. The sound is warmer than on the Retrieval. Quote
jazztrain Posted November 28, 2018 Report Posted November 28, 2018 My package from ImportCDs finally arrived. Unfortunately, they sent me "Rhythm and Blues Christmas" instead of the NORK set. Quote
AllenLowe Posted November 28, 2018 Report Posted November 28, 2018 the new transfers are spectacular, in my opinion. Quote
jazztrain Posted November 28, 2018 Report Posted November 28, 2018 The samples on line sounded great, even on my phone. I was really looking forward to hearing them tonight. Sigh.... Quote

Chuck Nessa Posted December 5, 2018 Report Posted December 5, 2018 Just a warning - if you dispose of the Retrieval package you lose the 6 titles by Paul Mares and his Friars Society Orchestra from 1935. I am not sure these are available elsewhere. Quote

2scoops Posted December 5, 2018 Report Posted December 5, 2018 I would very much like this set but I'm having a problem finding it for sale from anywhere in Europe, let alone the UK. Any suggestions would be much appreciated, thanks. Quote
