Do the new transfers add much to the NORK 2-CD set from Retrieval  Records that John R.T. Davis produced back in 2001?

Unless proved wrong, I am sticking with that one....

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. [Import CDs current price.]

I'll be picking this up at some point. (Still haven't purchased the newly restored Fletcher Henderson set!)

Wich New Henderson set do you mean?

With new transfers from restored original source discs by Doug Benson. Rivermont/Off The Record (David Sager) collaboration.

Whoa!  I have the Retrieval edition referred to above, but hard to take a pass on something with any kind of Off The Record involvement... I'll probably get. Thanks for the heads-up.

Just got this in the mail today—the sound is amazing. (I’ve only listened to disc 1 so far, but can’t imagine there’ll be a dropoff in quality on disc 2.)  Excellent booklet, too; I’d say this is my favorite reissue/historical release of the year, or at least neck-and-neck with Mosaic’s Savory set.

Listening again this Sunday morning, and the sonic detail and clarity of this reissue is stunning. This set is really deepening my appreciation for NORK, and the notes on both the band and the recordings are well-researched and insightful. Highly recommended for anybody with an interest in early jazz.

the new transfers are spectacular, in my opinion.

Agree totally with Allen. I liked the Davies effort, but this one blows it away...imho.

Just a warning - if you dispose of the Retrieval package you lose the 6 titles by Paul Mares and his Friars Society Orchestra from 1935. I am not sure these are available elsewhere.

I noted this as well--was already planning to hang on to the Retrieval edition anyway.  Thanks for the heads-up.

I would very much like this set but I'm having a problem finding it for sale from anywhere in Europe, let alone the UK. Any suggestions would be much appreciated, thanks.

...with some absolutely wild alto sax solos by the underrated and under-recorded Boyce Brown.

Have you tried Amazon? It's on several of their European sites, including co.uk.

I bought it directly from Rivermont through their website.
