paul secor Posted January 8, 2019 Report Posted January 8, 2019 Harper to the Phillies or remaining with the Nats. Machado to the White Sox. Both of those would make me happy. Quote

Matthew Posted January 8, 2019 Report Posted January 8, 2019 Might work with the small Philly park, Harper's numbers could get very high there. The Andrew McCutchen signing doesn't make sense, saw him all last year with the Giant's, and he's way past his prime. Seems to be a great guy to have on a team though, always gave it all on the field, we'll see if he has anything left in the tank. Quote
Dave James Posted January 9, 2019 Report Posted January 9, 2019 In what may be an attempt to help lure Manny Machado, the White Sox have agreed to a one-year, $4 million deal with Machado's training partner, outfielder Jon Jay. The two train together in the offseason in Miami along with Machado's brother-in-law Yonder Alonso. Quote
paul secor Posted January 9, 2019 Report Posted January 9, 2019 Hey - sign family and friends. Just keep him out of NY. Quote

Dave James Posted January 10, 2019 Report Posted January 10, 2019 (edited) Considering the cost, his potential effect on the clubhouse, that his signing with either the White Sox or the Phillies has no direct impact on the regular season and the fact that Andujar's star is still rising, I'd prefer that the Yankees pass on Machado. Brad Posted January 14, 2019 Report Posted January 14, 2019 RIP Mel Stottlemyre, a very good pitcher for the Yankees in the 60s and coach for them in the 90s and the Mets in the 80s. A classy person. Quote
paul secor Posted January 15, 2019 Report Posted January 15, 2019 From what little I know, he did seem to be a classy person. RIP, Mr. Stottlemyre. Quote

With a career ERA of 2.93, his personal W-L record might have been substantially better had he pitched for the team either earlier or later. Quote
JSngry Posted January 15, 2019 Author Report Posted January 15, 2019 Yes, the Yankees pretty much sucked in those years, I remember it well. But I like that he liked to take home movies, like Bob Crane and other famous celebrities. I wonder if they still exist? Quote
Brad Posted January 15, 2019 Report Posted January 15, 2019 One of the broadcasters on WFAN in NY noted today two of the very good Yankees in the last 50 years arrived at the wrong time: Mel arrived too late (just as the Yankee dynasty was starting to crumble) and Don Mattingly arrived too early (just before the last Yankee dynasty started to jell). So true. Quote

Dave James Posted January 17, 2019 Report Posted January 17, 2019 His agent is contesting this, but there are reports circulating that the White Sox offer to Manny Machado is for seven years and $175 million. That's a far cry from the ten years and $300 million it was thought Machado might command. If this is true, it could open the door for several other teams although I still don't see New York as a player.. Quote
