Hardbopjazz Posted October 26, 2018 Report Posted October 26, 2018 (edited) Jazz and Blues trading cards. I didn't know about these. Anyone here every collect any? 1992 was the year these were for sale. Edited October 26, 2018 by Hardbopjazz Quote
medjuck Posted October 26, 2018 Report Posted October 26, 2018 I have both boxes. I think that's all there were. There was also a book. They're all still available at Amazon. Quote
JSngry Posted October 26, 2018 Report Posted October 26, 2018 good cards, lousy bubble gum. Tasted like gin. Quote
Brad Posted October 26, 2018 Report Posted October 26, 2018 Never heard of these and I used to collect cards. Quote
duaneiac Posted October 26, 2018 Report Posted October 26, 2018 I have the Early Jazz Greats cards (which, if I recall correctly, I picked up at Tower Records' going-out-of-business sale) and the book. They are fun items to have and would serve as a great gift (to give or receive) for the jazz fan. Quote
brownie Posted October 26, 2018 Report Posted October 26, 2018 I have the Early Jazz Greats cards and the Crumb book. Can't remember where I bought the cards. The set still has a $6.95 sticker. I miss Crumb's output... Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted October 26, 2018 Report Posted October 26, 2018 I've never owned a set, but have seen them for sale any number of times over the years. I remember seeing a nifty documentary about Robert Crumb back in Kansas City, probably 20 years ago. Interesting guy (putting it mildly). Wikipedia seems to indicate he's still among us! - age 75. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Crumb Quote
brownie Posted October 26, 2018 Report Posted October 26, 2018 Crumb is currently à happy résident of the southern France village called Sauve. Quote
mikeweil Posted October 26, 2018 Report Posted October 26, 2018 Lucky guy ... Is that the "Book" you all are talking about? Quote
paul secor Posted October 26, 2018 Report Posted October 26, 2018 I used to have both sets of cards (plus, I believe a set of early "Country Music Heroes"). At some point, they didn't interest me anymore and I sold/traded them - too much stuff. Quote
bluenoter Posted October 26, 2018 Report Posted October 26, 2018 (edited) I remember R.Crumb's jazz cards and his blues cards but not his country (music) cards, though I've seen a few of the country cards' illustrations in isolation. On Amazon, I just saw each of the three — blues, jazz, and country by R.Crumb — reissued in 2017 and available as sets of cards. That's in addition to the book that features the illustrations from all three. They are listed as follows on Amazon: Heroes of the Blues Boxed Trading Card Set by R. Crumb Early Jazz Greats Boxed Trading Card Set by R. Crumb Pioneers of Country Music Boxed Trading Card Set by R. Crumb and the book is listed as R. Crumb's Heroes of Blues, Jazz & Country The book comes "along with an exclusive 21-track CD of music selected and compiled by Crumb himself . . . " and a bio of each musician. Chuck Nessa Posted October 26, 2018 Report Posted October 26, 2018 Back in my distribution days we sold these. Nick Perls Yazoo was the source. Quote
