Let's just say that the in-car LP's had a life span of five plays and you had to clean out the vinyl shavings after every rotation. Quote
medjuck Posted October 30, 2018 Report Posted October 30, 2018 For some strange reason my parents had an 8 track player as part of their Hi Fi cabinet and a few 8 tracks as well. Quote
Scott Dolan Posted October 30, 2018 Report Posted October 30, 2018 Growing up we had an 8-track player in almost every room pf our house. Quote

Actually, it's a California thing, Earl Muntz, to be specific. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stereo-Pak I'm pretty sure that my family had a Muntz TV set in 1951. Guess that really dates me. Quote
Scott Dolan Posted October 30, 2018 Report Posted October 30, 2018 You could have said that you saw pictures of it in an old family album and kept the mystery alive. Quote

chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted November 12, 2018 Report Posted November 12, 2018 ok i got one i just heard this on cd for the 1st time today....oh. my. god. it is 50-billion times better sounding than the lp, this title, i had it cranked to EIGHT on my JVC, i can hardly crank anything to eight. do yourself a favor, burn your lp of this, pick this up. maybe pick it up before you burn it. but yea- you need this bad Quote
Scott Dolan Posted November 12, 2018 Report Posted November 12, 2018 It still all comes down to the mastering. A crappy master will sound just as bad on CD as it will on LP, and vice versa. Quote

Actually had a 7th grade math teacher who brought in her brand new Muntz(?) 4-Track player to class one day in 1969 to play the then brand new Blood Sweat & Tears album for us under the guise of "study time". She came from a family with oil money, drove a Jag, and shopped in Dallas every weekend. She was a "flashy" figure in little ol' Gladewater, but there was never any scandal around her. Mrs. Daniels was her name, and overall, she was cool. The day she socked it to the Harper Valley PTA! Also, as much as I enjoyed the earlier mention of Lunceford on 8-track, Lunceford goes on a two-sided 78 or 45. Clearly what you want on 8-track is boogie woogie. Another useless thing I'll contribute to this thread is the observation that IT BLOWS MY FREAKIN' MIND that the shimmering-fairy-dust-moon-rock-cables-aligned-with-true-North-are-better-for-my-bat-like-hearing patrol did not comment on Kevin's post. Either someone was not paying attention, or we've all grown up a bit. In either case, cause for wild celebration: pointy hats and RIAA-eq-curve-adjusted party blowers for all! Quote

JSngry Posted November 14, 2018 Report Posted November 14, 2018 At 3 3/4 ips, probably not so super-fi. Quote

Yeah, you need 7 1/2 IPS for reel-to-reel, and it's a roll of the dice even with those. Still, if yo get a good 7.5 IPS reel tape, it can sound amazing. Quote
