I just had a chance to hear this one.   Very very nice!   Kimbrough has a strong personal feel for Monk's music.  The arrangements are imaginative, completely loyal to the compositional structures but also creative.   I think that Monk himself would be pleased and honored with most of these interpretations.

Mine was scheduled to be delivered today, and just when I returned from work the mailman arrived with a pile including some conspicuous objects. It wouldn't have passed the mailbox slit, and amazon.co.uk's thin cardboard envelopes make my neck hair rise. Will give it a listen tomorrow.

Had a listen to the first disc earlier today, and it more than fulfills my expectations. Bemsha Swing on bass sax - hell yeah! And the slow rubato treatment of Light Blue moves it closer to Monk Ballads like Crepuscule with Nellie - if it goes on like this, it's the new box set of the year. I passed on the Schlippenbach set as their approach was much too sloppy for my taste - don't mess with Monk! But this here hits the perfect balance between respect and personal attitude.
