corto maltese Posted September 24, 2018 Report Posted September 24, 2018 Other members did the hard work for me, but track 4 is "Lifetime" from Randy Weston's "With These Hands" album with Cecil Payne. Nice track. As for track 2, the Dylan clue made it very easy to identify Michael Moore's Jewels and Binoculars trio (with Lindsay Horner and Michael Vatcher). That was a full-time Dylan cover band (and a very good one too). I listened to track 3 for Kenny Wheeler, but would have like it a lot more without the guitar and the organ. Google helped me out here: it's "Speak Easy" from John Abercrombie's "Open Land" album. Quote
Milestones Posted September 24, 2018 Author Report Posted September 24, 2018 Nice work--that's 3 tracks fully identified. I am surprised no one has gotten #5 and, perhaps, #9. Quote
Hot Ptah Posted September 27, 2018 Report Posted September 27, 2018 Track 5 is truly beautiful. If the flute player is primarily a saxophonist and is doubling on flute, he or she really plays flute beautifully. I have heard this before and think I have it in my collection but cannot place it. I am looking forward to the Reveal on this one. Quote
Milestones Posted September 27, 2018 Author Report Posted September 27, 2018 Track #5 is from the 1960s. The leader is the pianist, though of course the flute is very prominent on this piece. He was/is also an alto sax player, but played flute a great deal. He was known for his sideman work. Quote
corto maltese Posted September 28, 2018 Report Posted September 28, 2018 I think the guitarist-leader on the track with Frisell (#13) is Jim Hall. I know they have recorded together a couple of times. Quote
Milestones Posted September 28, 2018 Author Report Posted September 28, 2018 Yes, it certainly is Jim Hall, though not from the 2-disc set they did together. Quote
corto maltese Posted September 28, 2018 Report Posted September 28, 2018 OK, I'll go for a full ID on track #6 then: Ted Nash's "Sidewalk Meeting", with the spectacular trombone of Wycliffe Gordon. Nicely done, reminds me a bit of that Louis Armstrong tribute by Thomas Heberer and Dieter Manderscheid. Quote
Milestones Posted September 29, 2018 Author Report Posted September 29, 2018 Yes, exactly right! Quote
Milestones Posted September 30, 2018 Author Report Posted September 30, 2018 Last day for the Blindfold test. Quote
