duaneiac Posted August 2, 2018 Report Posted August 2, 2018 Another piece of jazz history is set to disappear as Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, where many jazz greats including Sonny Rollins, McCoy Tyner, Bill Evans, Woody Herman, and Bobby Hutcherson recorded, announced they will be closing their doors forever come Sept. 15th. https://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Berkeley-s-famed-Fantasy-Studios-set-to-close-13117196.php Quote
Ken Dryden Posted August 2, 2018 Report Posted August 2, 2018 I'ts hard to imagine how many recordings i own that were recorded there. Quote
mikeweil Posted August 2, 2018 Report Posted August 2, 2018 ..... not to mention the many reissues mastered there! Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted August 2, 2018 Report Posted August 2, 2018 Not sure how much they have done lately. This is the most recent recording I own. Quote
CJ Shearn Posted August 3, 2018 Report Posted August 3, 2018 Oh man. Santana's current keyboardist recorded his newest disc there and I had gotten a promo of a vocalist who had recently cut an album there as well. With Avatar closing later to be bought and used by Berklee, times are indeed changing. Couldn't there be a historical preservation thing like what's being done at RVG's to save Fantasy studios? Quote
JSngry Posted August 3, 2018 Report Posted August 3, 2018 Over the years, the studios hosted artists as varied as Tony Bennett, Aerosmith, Counting Crows, U2, Joan Baez and Sonny Rollins. Interesting pop-culture awareness snapshot there. Quote
