Dan Gould Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 Colt .45 is out on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Colt-45-Arnett-Cobb/dp/B07C1RWSJ2/ref=sr_1_129?ie=UTF8&qid=1530468217&sr=8-129&keywords=arnett+cobb Is it actually the same track as the soundcloud cut? Quote
Dan Gould Posted July 27, 2018 Report Posted July 27, 2018 One more time, the one track released. I tried to contact their Facebook page, no reply. God only knows if this is coming out a pretty nice taste of Cobb and Wilkerson and sound is fine to these ears. Quote
paul secor Posted August 7, 2018 Report Posted August 7, 2018 Not sure if this has already found its way onto this thread. If not: https://www.houstonchronicle.com/entertainment/music/article/Houston-celebrates-jazz-legend-Arnette-Cobb-s-13130751.php Quote

If not: https://www.houstonchronicle.com/entertainment/music/article/Houston-celebrates-jazz-legend-Arnette-Cobb-s-13130751.php Thank you, Paul, for finally there is some info: Lizette and her son Shae have also unearthed a diamond of a previously unreleased recording from 1963 that Cobb made with some top jazz players of the day. The Cobbs planned to release the album this week for the saxophonist’s birthday, but some personal complications have pushed back the release a few months. Quote
Dan Gould Posted March 8, 2019 Report Posted March 8, 2019 I've been hounding the writer of the original piece about the status of the release. He still has no solid info but the scuttlebutt/rumor is that this was to be an independent release but after the initial publicity other companies may have stepped up to produce a wider-reaching better quality release. But that's just rumor at this point. Its kind of ridiculous that it was around spring training last year that the first report came out and the single was released for download. Quote

But there is zero mention of any such recording on discogs, and eBay and Amazon are empty too. Would definitely like to hear that one. The things you find thru Discogs and in the stacks. Turns out Home Cooking Records put out an LP, which lists Jimmy Nelson. And of course I already had it. The liners mention that the Nelson tracks (only two) are with Arnett's band. Since it says Unissued Masters I guess these are the only tracks ever issued from that session. Quote
king ubu Posted May 6, 2019 Report Posted May 6, 2019 Any News? August came and went, and another August is coming up pretty soon ... Quote

Since December I have kept in contact with the author of the article but to date he has heard nothing direct from the family about firm plans to finally release. Supposedly a family member in direct charge had been ill and most recently he said there are whispers about not putting it out independently but thru more traditional means and that is a new hang up. I actually just emailed him again as I realize its been two months since our last exchange. I'll let everyone know if there is something new to report. Quote

Had no idea now that if you use @King Ubu or any other user name you generate a notification. Oops now that's three. Somebody STOP ME. Quote

The notification using the @-sign didn't work - it only works if/when you pick the username from the list that will load while typing (for some reasons, that list will not always load). It's convenient in cases where you don't have a post to quote (or don't want to quote). Quote
Dan Gould Posted May 9, 2019 Report Posted May 9, 2019 No new info from the arts writer. He's tried to contact the family member again. Quote
mjzee Posted September 16 Report Posted September 16 Put Zev Feldman on the case! He's the "jazz detective," isn't he? Quote

Quite a story, as they say. Oh I remember that you posted that because someone bumped the thread I had forgotten. What kind of story about Jimmy Ford ? As I say, I saw him perform with Arnett Cobb, maybe his alto sounded a bit rusty, and he wore a quite out of fashion grey suit, which usually would have been for clerks in the 1950´s , 1960´s where it possibly came from.... If he was so good to play with some of the greatest boppers of all times (Tadd, Fats, Klook), why didn´t he continue ? Quote
JSngry Posted September 23 Report Posted September 23 Supposedly he became a recluse who stayed in his room and drank. And practiced. Only came out to play. Quote
