chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted July 30, 2012 Report Posted July 30, 2012 Curtis Fulller/ Ocalaypso 45: it went for $111 the other day. !? Seems to crop up more often than 500 copies would indicate. But I suppose those who bought copies out of Goldmine for $500 in the 1980s are flipping for more dough now. what do you mean those who bought copies out of goldmine in the 80s for $500 Quote

robertoart Posted August 7, 2012 Report Posted August 7, 2012 (edited) Not crazy prices for this one, but I bet the bidding goes high at the deathknell. Somewhere close to $300 maybe. My link Same seller sold Harold Vick's Steppin Out for $200 a few months ago. Edited August 7, 2012 by freelancer Quote
sidewinder Posted May 28, 2015 Report Posted May 28, 2015 (edited) Even by the standards of the latest craziness out there in ebay-Land, this one takes the biscuit.. http://www.popsike.com/NMNM-Shrink-Dexter-Gordon-Gettin-Around-Blue-Note-4205-VAN-GELDER-Mono-no-Ear/131490880518.html Edited May 28, 2015 by sidewinder Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted May 28, 2015 Report Posted May 28, 2015 I have a hard time believing that one ever got completed!!! Quote
clifford_thornton Posted May 28, 2015 Report Posted May 28, 2015 That's dumb, but this next level: http://collectorsfrenzy.com/details/271872769323/Hank_Mobley__Hank_Mobley_Stunning_US_First_Press_Blue_Note_BLP_1568_RVG Quote

sidewinder Posted May 29, 2015 Report Posted May 29, 2015 (edited) I'll stick with my Mobley Mosaic vinyl ! I have a hard time believing that one ever got completed!!! Interestingly, it is mentioned in this month's 'Record Collector; in their ebay watch section listing high value sales. Suggests legit? . Having said that, a copy of Larry Young 'Unity' also "sold" around the same time for this magic $7800 amount. So I would be inclined to file this one along with tulip bulbs.. romualdo Posted May 29, 2015 Report Posted May 29, 2015 That's dumb, but this next level: http://collectorsfrenzy.com/details/271872769323/Hank_Mobley__Hank_Mobley_Stunning_US_First_Press_Blue_Note_BLP_1568_RVG Currently reading the Havers "Uncompromising Expression" Blue Note publication & he mentions that some of the early BN LP's go up to $5000 - but this figure is insane!! Who buys these LPs - Japanese collectors? Quote
sidewinder Posted May 29, 2015 Report Posted May 29, 2015 (edited) There is speculation out there that whoever bought the Mobley thought he/she was buying in $US instead of £GB. Edited May 29, 2015 by sidewinder Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted May 29, 2015 Report Posted May 29, 2015 I have a mint King issue of 1568, and I know a local collector that has an original in strong VG+ shape so, u know, I got to hold it in my hand and nerd out over the unobtainium right in my very presence Quote
clifford_thornton Posted May 29, 2015 Report Posted May 29, 2015 I assume it will not be paid for. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted May 29, 2015 Report Posted May 29, 2015 What stinks is that all the unpaid-for market outliers end up on popsike and cfrenzy, thus skewing future auctions upward. Quote
JSngry Posted May 29, 2015 Report Posted May 29, 2015 unobtainium Oooo....new word learned here. Thanks! Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted May 29, 2015 Report Posted May 29, 2015 Haha I think that's the stuff they were digging for in "Avatar" That priceless "rare" mineral....thought it applied here Quote
clifford_thornton Posted May 29, 2015 Report Posted May 29, 2015 (edited) I recall it being tossed around - the word "Unobtanium" - in cycling parlance in the 1990s, referring to high-end bicycle frame materials. additionally, I'm waiting for someone to chime in with an OG copy of 1568 on the "what vinyl are you spinning now?" thread... hell, I only have it on CD! Homefromtheforest Posted May 29, 2015 Report Posted May 29, 2015 I can borrow my friend's copy and comply! Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted June 8, 2015 Report Posted June 8, 2015 (edited) Not sure how to post a hyperlink but earlier today a copy of Sun Ra's "secrets of the sun" sold for over $1100 usd. This is not even the first pressing! The labels are second issue ankh labels as opposed to first gold labels with large "SATURN" text and no ankh logo. Crazy money for a second issue me thinks...
