Tom in RI Posted February 17, 2018 Report Posted February 17, 2018 I apologize if this is posted elsewhere here. George Cables is having some pretty big health challenges. Donations can be made here: https://www.gofundme.com/team-george-cables/donate Quote
Peter Friedman Posted February 17, 2018 Report Posted February 17, 2018 Tom, can you give us a bit more information of the situation with George Cables? He had a number of very very serious health problems some years ago, and had made a recovery. He had to cancel his appearance at the Oregon Coast Jazz Party this past October due to a health problem. Ken Dryden Posted February 18, 2018 Report Posted February 18, 2018 I just made a gift targeted to him through Jazz Foundation of America. Quote
CJ Shearn Posted February 18, 2018 Report Posted February 18, 2018 Donated as well, hope Mr. Cables gets the help he needs. I have enjoyed his work with Freddie, Joe Hen, Dex, and The Cookers for a long time. Quote
bertrand Posted February 18, 2018 Report Posted February 18, 2018 So it is preferable to go through Jazz Foundation rather than the link above? I once gave George and Cecil McBee a rise to the hotel from a gig. Very nice, graceful gentleman, and wonderful player. Hoping for a full recovery. Bertrand. Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted February 19, 2018 Report Posted February 19, 2018 Was stoked to see he had made such a comeback and was in the Cookers- hope he gets well soon Quote

I talked very briefly with Mr. Cables and Mr. McBee once after catching The Cookers and they both struck me as being genuinely nice men on top of being two of the greats. It warmed my heart to see so many people stepping up to help Mr. Cables. I hope his recovery goes well. Quote
mr jazz Posted March 6, 2018 Report Posted March 6, 2018 I get an email saying he came through the surgery well and is recovering. It was nice to see how much was raised. David Weiss of the Cookers is a member here and posts occasionally. David, if you see this, any updates appreciated. Quote

jlhoots Posted February 23, 2019 Report Posted February 23, 2019 I saw Cables live a few months ago. He was great. So was Victor Lewis. Quote
Peter Friedman Posted February 23, 2019 Report Posted February 23, 2019 Very good news. George Cables is one of my favorite living jazz pianists. Saw Victor Lewis about a year ago. He was marvelously creative and swinging. Quote
