Thanks for posting this.

I've never been disappointed by any Hampel music I've heard and I've heard a fair amount. I think he's one of the most underrated of the European free jazz fraternity. It's great that he's still out there presenting his music - I just wish he'd come to London, I'm not aware of him having played here in at least the last the 25 years.

The film archive he talks about must be absolutely astonishing

I wish he would come to London. One of the last of my true favourite musicians I've yet to see live.

I suspect that at his age he prefers to stay relatively local which is very understandable

Olschewski, Adam: Wir haben als Besonderes das Menschsein. In: Jazzpodium 4-5/2025, pp. 6 – 13

Adam Olschewski, editor-in-chief of 'Jazzpodium', interviewed Gunter Hampel with his children Cavana Lee-Hampel and Ruomi Lee-Hampel - with eight photos, including Jeanne Lee and Marion Brown.

Picked this up last summer, when I was on a Marion Brown binge:

Also have this:

Gunter Hampel Group – Music From Europe – Vinyl (LP, Album), 1967 [r1771734] | Discogs

There always seems to be a sense of electricity/excitement that comes with his music. Aways delighted to see his name in a lineup.
