optatio Posted February 2, 2018 Report Posted February 2, 2018 „The legendary multi-instrumentalist, Gunter Hampel does not always say what some would like him to say, but he is never less than brutally honest. And why not?“ Published yesterday: https://jazzdagama.com/imperatives/gunter-hampel-real-life-real-live-art/ Quote
mjazzg Posted February 2, 2018 Report Posted February 2, 2018 Thanks for posting this. I've never been disappointed by any Hampel music I've heard and I've heard a fair amount. I think he's one of the most underrated of the European free jazz fraternity. It's great that he's still out there presenting his music - I just wish he'd come to London, I'm not aware of him having played here in at least the last the 25 years. The film archive he talks about must be absolutely astonishing Quote
optatio Posted August 31, 2023 Author Report Posted August 31, 2023 Happy Birthday, Gunter, have a good one and many many more. See you in Göttingen ... Quote

clifford_thornton Posted August 31, 2023 Report Posted August 31, 2023 I love the rave party-animal energy coming from that digital flyer. He has always seemed to me like a rather far out dude, and I love his music. Quote

Gheorghe Posted September 1, 2023 Report Posted September 1, 2023 He had led the Galaxy of Dream Band together with Jeanne Lee, right ? And most important. He brought the young Allan Praskin to Europe ! Quote

Kind of like a more free Velvet Underground Quote
clifford_thornton Posted September 5, 2023 Report Posted September 5, 2023 Yes, I have it -- very good. Quote
mjazzg Posted September 5, 2023 Report Posted September 5, 2023 Which release is that? I don't know about it Quote
clifford_thornton Posted September 6, 2023 Report Posted September 6, 2023 it's a Berlin Jazztage live thing that was floating around at one point. Quote

clifford_thornton Posted September 6, 2023 Report Posted September 6, 2023 yeah, got that and the AMM thing too. The AMM session is super. But yes, if you know where to look, it's around. Board rules I believe prohibit specific sites from being mentioned but the stuff is "out there." Quote

optatio Posted March 17 Author Report Posted March 17 Gunter, living in Göttingen, is tireless - in Berlin again: https://jazz-in-berlin.net/event/gunter-hampel-vibes/ ... Quote
mjazzg Posted March 17 Report Posted March 17 I wish he would come to London. One of the last of my true favourite musicians I've yet to see live. I suspect that at his age he prefers to stay relatively local which is very understandable Quote

Holy Ghost Posted 23 hours ago Report Posted 23 hours ago Picked this up last summer, when I was on a Marion Brown binge: Also have this: There always seems to be a sense of electricity/excitement that comes with his music. Aways delighted to see his name in a lineup. Quote
