bertrand Posted March 5, 2004 Report Posted March 5, 2004 Martial Solal had to cancel his concert in D.C. last night due to a medical emergency. I hope he is alright. Does anyone have any more details? Bertrand. Quote
king ubu Posted March 5, 2004 Report Posted March 5, 2004 This is sad news, Bertrand! Hope he recovers again, and hope it's nothing bad! ubu Quote
brownie Posted March 5, 2004 Report Posted March 5, 2004 Weizen mentioned the cancelled concert in Washington on another thread. I have checked here and did not find anything mentioning ill health. Martial Solal is scheduled to play a concert in suburban Paris next week. The concert is still on. Quote

It was just one of these night when all the musicians and the audience clicked. Plain amazing, this girl is a star. The reason I 've posted this item is because Deborah won a prize "best new young artist" by a jury presided by Martial Solal. You can find more on Deborah on the Jazz valley website. Quote
brownie Posted November 19, 2004 Report Posted November 19, 2004 Up, and with apologies for having missed the announcement of a Martial Solal appearance at the Paris New Morning Club tonight. Parts of the concert are scheduled to be broadcast live on the France Musiques radio station tonight. Here is the link to tune in: http://www.radiofrance.fr/chaines/france-musiques/direct/ The broadcast is starting at 2200GMT tonight! Martial Solal should be playing with Mads Vinding on bass and Francois Moutin on bass, too. Also lined up are trumpet player Eric Le Lann, trombone player Denis Leloup and pianist Niels Lan Doky Quote
sidewinder Posted November 20, 2004 Report Posted November 20, 2004 Good to hear he's back in action ! Fond memoris of his solo recital in Bath (1988 I think) in the Georgian splendour of the Guildhall. About the most civilised jazz performance I have ever witnessed and Solal was awesome. Quote

About the most civilised jazz performance I have ever witnessed and Solal was awesome. Listened to the France Musiques broadcast last night. Glad to report that Solal performed to a full house and was in top form. Solal played with the two bass players (Vinding and Moutin). He was at the top of his game. There was awesome music played! No talk from Solal (he was his usual shy self), just great improvisations! Quote
