I happen to have the Moondog  Esquire LP but without the cover ( the LP was in The Second City Jazzmen 32-053 that I got for almost nothing). I may consider having the corresponding cover art, thanks for the thread.

I have a soft spot for Esquire original covers and the sound of the records is unique (if I manage to listen to them as some platters are a bit over 30cm and my turntable won't spin, like Hawk Eyes).

Wonder how that Moondog disk managed to be within the Brummy trad sleeve? 

Always admired that ‘Miles’ artwork and never realised it was the work of renowned cartoonist Mel Calman. The Moondog is by Diz Disley.

Cartoonist Ralph Steadman also did some of the covers e.g ‘Gil Evans Plus 10’.

My thoughts exactly when I opened this thread.

I have a couple of Esquire EPs bought secondhand in the UK in the 90s (and also 2-3 78s), and 2-3 years ago I picked up the below LP at a fleamarket during our holidays in Southern France. Sadly pretty shot but interesting just for the cover and at a price of 1 euro you can't go wrong. Besides, I already had Prestige 7003 (OJC facsimile reissue) with the music in mint shape.  The elderly seller who disposed of quite a few jazz records of his at the same low price (somewhat more recent releases, in better condition but clearly "enjoyed") told me he had bought this particular LP - his first LP (or jazz LP?) - as a youngster while on a school exchange stay in London in the 50s. Nice story and one more reason to reserve a spot for it.

In the same vein, I wonder if there is any book of Robert Guidi/Tri-Arts covers, another great favorite of mine!

I wonder how things would stand legally with regards to publishing these in a book?  Not sure who owns the rights to Esquire either after Peter Newbrook’s passing. The Calman print was with permission for a one-off very limited run from his daughter. If that was repeated across the whole catalogue it could be quite the exercise, to say the least.

Those Guidis, or many of them, are in a OOP Glyn Callingham book on the West Coast labels.

To divert a bit more to the  Guidi/Tri-Arts covers, I always wondered  who was the illustrator of the animal covers (Shelly Manne's birds, penguins and cat, Hawes's alligator, Previns's Lion, ...). I assumed it was Guidi, but I  realized recently that the Penguins (the three & the two) were drawed by Irene Trivas. She might then behind the other animal covers, but it's difficult to find more info about Guidi/Tri-Arts.
