Lets hypothetically say i got to nyc and to the village vaguard--- how hard would it be to get a seat behind the piano, to watch barry harris  How do they position the piano in that room.

Get on line early and when asked where you want to sit, walk right up to the seat behind the piano. It's actually better to sit just right of the piano so you can watch his hands.

How early would you suggest?

The doors open at 7:30. I would say by 6:50. The line starts at the end of the awing by the curb to the street. Make sure you make reservations or buy your ticket on line.

I plan on going to Thursday's sets. Michael Weiss posted this photo on Facebook.

Nice photo. Is that Gary Smulyan on the right?

Playing "Salt Peanuts" and Barry's "Around the Corner" four hands.

I've sat against the wall right next to the piano the two times I've been to the Village Vanguard (to see Harold Mabern and Tom Harrell).  It would've been something sitting there for Barry, too.  I'm glad to know he is healthy enough to be out there performing still.

Camera optics do strange things... I doubt that anyone who has played there would consider that stage "big". :)

Agree - the stage is small.
