Hardbopjazz Posted December 7, 2017 Report Posted December 7, 2017 Barry Harris recently took a fall while on tour. He is pretty banged up and in a rehabilitation facility in Secaucus New Jersey. He is going to be there for a while. Healing will take longer as you progress in years. With his 88th birthday next week, let's send him some positive vibes and wish for a full recovery. Get Better Barry. Happy Birthday. Quote

Peter Friedman Posted December 7, 2017 Report Posted December 7, 2017 Barry Harris has been one of my favorite jazz piano players ever since I first heard him live in Detroit over 50 years ago. Get well soon and Happy Birthday. Quote

Heck, I'm only 55 and I've fallen twice in the past year and tweaked my right shoulder so bad that I still can't play volleyball. I'm going a little nuts about it right now. I can't imagine what Barry's going through at the age of 87. Quote

From what Phil Schaap said on the radio this morning, Barry can't even move around at this point. He's just lying in bed. Quote
Cyril Posted December 7, 2017 Report Posted December 7, 2017 (edited) It would be great if you could send him a 'Get Well Card' and, for that matter, make it a 'Birthday Card', too. The Alaris Rehabilitation Ctr 505 County Ave. Secaucus, NJ. 07094 Edited December 10, 2017 by Cyril Quote
Big Beat Steve Posted December 7, 2017 Report Posted December 7, 2017 Keeping my fingers crossed this will work out alright again soon. Get well really soon and stay on it. Quote

Thank you very much for this. There's nothing wrong with positive vibes and best wishes, but they don't do a heck of a lot for Barry. On the other hand, a humorous card with a heartfelt message can mean a lot. Quote
Cyril Posted December 7, 2017 Report Posted December 7, 2017 With just a few words we can let him know how special he is for us.... Quote
T.D. Posted December 7, 2017 Report Posted December 7, 2017 Best wishes from a very big fan! My father spent some time in a rehab center earlier this year, and those places aren't pleasant...Barry could use our support. Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted December 7, 2017 Report Posted December 7, 2017 He was on tour? I didn't know he toured- is this a "nursing home"? is he just staying there while he gets better? Quote

Rehab center is not the same as a nursing home. Not meant to be permanent; recovering patients usually are released from a hospital to a rehab center, where they stay and undergo therapy until they regain sufficient mobility to return home. sgcim Posted December 10, 2017 Report Posted December 10, 2017 Get well soon, Barry! The enemies of Bop are taking over America's only original art form, and destroying the tradition Bird devoted his life to. We need General Harris to lead us back into the light... Quote
mikeweil Posted December 10, 2017 Report Posted December 10, 2017 Best wishes for him! Falling at such an age is really life-threatening .... Quote
