clifford_thornton Posted October 5, 2017 Report Posted October 5, 2017 Long been curious about this record but have never been able to find a copy. Looks like it's finally getting a boutique reissue... that is, if the Kickstarter is a success. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1257284387/niels-viggo-bentzon-and-the-contemporary-jazz-quar?ref=email Guess it's basically a 150-copy pre-order but for those interested in this kind of music, it's a no-brainer. I pledged; is anyone else in? Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted October 5, 2017 Report Posted October 5, 2017 This stuff makes me dizzy for an hour or two, and then all is normal again. Quote
JSngry Posted October 5, 2017 Report Posted October 5, 2017 I'll wait for this one. Are Bentzon close enough to Benson to count? Quote
clifford_thornton Posted October 5, 2017 Author Report Posted October 5, 2017 Ha -- a little different. The band consists of Hugh Steinmetz on trumpet, Franz Beckerlee on alto, Steffen Andersen on bass, and Bo Thrige Andersen on drums. Quote
mjazzg Posted October 6, 2017 Report Posted October 6, 2017 Yep, I'm in. I appreciated what the label did with the Levin so will support them on this Quote

king ubu Posted October 17, 2017 Report Posted October 17, 2017 Brought it up to 98% funded ... thanks for the alert (went for the package including the Levin, hadn't been aware of that). Quote
mjazzg Posted October 17, 2017 Report Posted October 17, 2017 Thanks for the reminder, made my pledge so it's 98%+ now The Levin is very good. Clifford, I too have an original, slightly beat, and the sound is an improvement Quote
clifford_thornton Posted October 17, 2017 Author Report Posted October 17, 2017 Oh great, it's funded now. That's super. Yeah the original pressing of the Levin is not that high quality -- mine looks unplayed but there is a lot of surface noise. But hey, it was Bill Dixon's copy and has a very nice inscription from Marc to Bill, so there is something personal about it. Quote
corto maltese Posted October 20, 2017 Report Posted October 20, 2017 This is a very fine album, obviously close in spirit (and sound) to the three Debut releases ("Action", "T.C.J.Q." and "Nu!"). Mid 1960's European avant-garde jazz: how can you possibly go wrong? Quote
Late Posted October 20, 2017 Report Posted October 20, 2017 The samples sound good. I wonder why they're not expanding their sales to include digital formats. (Maybe because this makes piracy easier.) I would purchase either a CD or a download. The extra income might help fund further projects. Quote
