JSngry Posted August 21, 2017 Report Posted August 21, 2017 RIP. I could feel the love she had for life, no matter where it took her. Quote
sidewinder Posted August 21, 2017 Report Posted August 21, 2017 So sorry to hear this. She had plenty of friends on this board. RIP. Quote
Scott Dolan Posted August 21, 2017 Report Posted August 21, 2017 (edited) Rest in peace, fair lady. You and I never got along famously, but did find common ground at times. And I'm grateful that we did. You will be missed. Edited August 21, 2017 by Scott Dolan Quote

Kevin Bresnahan Posted August 22, 2017 Author Report Posted August 22, 2017 Although I mainly interacted with Valerie in the electronic world, I did get to meet her a couple of times in person back when the Jazz Corner crowd organized "hangs" down in New York City. She was a funny woman who knew a little something about nearly everyone in the Jazz world. You'd bring up a name, and she'd have a story. I remember having a PM conversation with her about some session she mentioned she was at and I was amazed at her recall. The Jazz world lost a lot of great memories with her passing, The thing about Val was that she was a friend to so many and an enemy of very few. If they can write that on your headstone, you did good. And I have to say, I can't believe she was 77! She seemed so much younger. She'd get a good laugh at me saying that. I am going to miss her. CJ Shearn Posted August 22, 2017 Report Posted August 22, 2017 RIP Valerie. Very strange they changed her so much on the character based on her for the Tina Turner movie but not surprising being Hollywood. I recall Valerie saying somewhere in the forums she had left that organization a long time ago. Incidentally, the Buddhist sect I am a part of, Shinnyo-en gets mistaken many times for the group Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and Tina Turner belong to. Quote

CJ Shearn Posted August 22, 2017 Report Posted August 22, 2017 Love that photo of her with Horace. Being a friend to many and enemy of a few is so very hard, I aim for that myself. But unlike a few people who made tons of enemies on the board, Valerie was always very kind. Quote
mikeweil Posted August 23, 2017 Report Posted August 23, 2017 R.I.P, Valerie - thanks for your enlightening spirit on this board. Quote
