Dan Gould Posted March 4, 2004 Report Posted March 4, 2004 Here's the e-mail I got: THIS WEEK ONLY!! All Storyville Records CDs on sale for 25% OFF MSRP. Storyville Records was founded over 50 years ago by Karl Knudsen. Considered by many to be the Blue Note of Europe, the label has recorded some of the most influential and creative jazz and blues players in the world. Storyville's aim is to present a diverse catalog of jazz & blues from Denmark, Europe and the World. Copenhagen and its jazzclubs have lured many a U.S. jazzman, including Stan Getz, Oscar Pettiford, Kenny Drew, Dexter Gordon, Ben Webster, Horace Parlan, Duke Jordan, Ed Thigpen, Doug Raney, Bob Rockwell, Chuck Israels, Thad Jones, Ernie Wilkins and more. This week, the entire Storyville catalog--nearly 400 titles--is 25% off, making the bulk of the catalog $14.23. Browse the entire Storyville Records label listing: http://www.allegro-music.com/label_search.asp?label=STC Lots of good stuff in there! Quote
Brad Posted March 5, 2004 Report Posted March 5, 2004 I got that email too but my only reservation is the sale price. $14.23 seems a little high for cds on "sale" or am I wrong about that? Quote
brownie Posted March 5, 2004 Report Posted March 5, 2004 Then how about this? http://www.storyville-records.com/OFFER.htm It says 2003 but it seems valid for 2004. Lots of fine stuff there! Quote
Dan Gould Posted March 5, 2004 Author Report Posted March 5, 2004 When you consider its a European imprint, I think the price is better than the alternative. It is 25% off list, even if the list price seems high. Lets put it this way-if Borders priced Criss Cross at $14, would you pounce? There's a lot of good stuff in the Storyville catalog, if I had any excess cash flow after the house/moving expenses, I'd be all over this. Quote
king ubu Posted March 5, 2004 Report Posted March 5, 2004 Then how about this? http://www.storyville-records.com/OFFER.htm It says 2003 but it seems valid for 2004. Lots of fine stuff there! That's pretty good! Did you contact them to ask if this offer is still valid? And they list that Lockjaw/Attenoux disc Sangrey asked about! ubu Quote

And they list that Lockjaw/Attenoux disc Sangrey asked about! ubu If you go to the storyville-records.com site you will see that the page preceding the Special Offer 2003 indicates it's a 2004 Offer. Have stayed out of this offer so far because I have bought so much stuff lately that I have fallen behind on my listening. I have eyes on that Sadik Hakim. Have dealt with Storyville a couple of times last year. They were excellent and fast. Not a single problem. In addition to the Eddie Davis/Attenoux, they also have the Vic Dickenson album that was originally on Mahogany. I like that one very much. I'm a big fan of Vic Dickenson... Quote
Brad Posted March 6, 2004 Report Posted March 6, 2004 Then how about this? http://www.storyville-records.com/OFFER.htm It says 2003 but it seems valid for 2004. Lots of fine stuff there! Now, that's a sale. Well, there goes a few bucks. I'll have to see if they take paypal since I have some surplus there. That Sadik Hakim does look interesting. Quote
garthsj Posted March 6, 2004 Report Posted March 6, 2004 (edited) This sale is available from Allegro Music here in the U.S. http://www.allegro-music.com/label_search.asp?label=STC Be warned, however, many of these albums can still be found at a slighter lower cost at other sites such as All Direct. com. Garth, Houston. OOPS! I missed the first post with this info.. but my observations that many Storyville albums are available at lower prices is still valid. I just ordered Warne Marsh "Marshlands" from AllDirect.com for $12.95. They have other W.M. Storyville albums at the same price/ Edited March 6, 2004 by garthsj Quote
